Just an FYI, iMac ram is very cheap and very easy to replace. I’m running 12 GB myself on my iMac.

If you have access to Adobe Media Converter that’s how I get around MTS files. My other editor doesn’t seem to understand I can’t use mts files by themselves and I always end up converting them to ProRes in Adobe Media Converter before I can start editing.

I just finished cutting a concert in which we had 3 ACHVD, 1 T3i, and a Zoom H4N for audio. I found it worked best to use “Synchronize Clips” with the T3i clips and the Zoom audio to make one synchronized clip and then I used multicam with all four cameras (including my new synchronized clip) and the wav file. Worked like a charm.

I’d recommend an RAM upgrade. I noticed a night and day difference going from 4GB to 12GB. Under $100 upgrade too.

Have you tried putting it into a compound clip?

Just wanted to chime in at the incredible difference I noticed going for 4GB to 12GB of RAM for Final Cut Pro X. It’s such an inexpensive upgrade that there’s almost no reason to edit with 4GB of RAM.

Time Machine drives are now available in the event library.

Renaming only changes the name for the clip in the timeline, correct? My goal is to use compound clips like sequences as others have suggested but it seems you have to have created the compound clip first through the event browser.

This is exactly what I was looking for; thank you! I tried command click, option click, but not both together, of course. Is this documented somewhere or was I supposed to magically know this?

You could make each chapter a compound clip. When you double click a compound clip in your master timeline you are able to edit just the chapter. You can also create or break apart compound clips at any time.
