Flatten Multiclip
Posted by Juan Salvo on February 10, 2012 at 8:31 pmIs there a way to collapse a multi clip so that it no longer behaves as one clip but rather as just the original shot with an edit?

All the best,

Particularly I want to cut something in multi clip then break apart and use optical flow to change speed. Optical is greyed out on multicam clips. Probably because it doesn’t correspond to an individual clip for motion analysis.

February 11, 2012 at 8:22 amA way I have, sort of, found to do this is to blade the multiclip to the desired ins and outs. Then match frame to that clip in the Event. When doing so, you will get your range from the bladed multiclip. You can now add that clip to the timeline as connected or replace it in the primary, whatever is required. You can then time remap from there.
If you find putting this single angle in the primary works best, you can attach the rogue multiclip underneath your single angle (or above and disable it), so you can always go back to it if needed.
Everything before and after will still be a multiclip

July 5, 2013 at 1:16 amSo a year or so on from this initial question, has the situation changed at all? or are we still stuck being unable to decompose multiclip edits? I’ve a multicam edit that I need to do some image stabilisation on and unfortunately you can’t stabilise a multiclip…

April 25, 2019 at 7:10 pmI wait until my edit is done before pulling clips from my multi-cam to optical flow and/or stabilize. Then I…
1 – Go to beginning of clip > right click > reveal in browser > option+M to immediately make a marker in browser window
2 – Double click multi-cam clip > use the maker’s starting point to go to the specific spot in the timeline
3 – Use the range tool to select what is needed to copy & paste into my working/editing timelineIt’s not perfect, but close enough! I’m currently using 10.4.5
