Make sure you don’t have a top track highlighted when color correcting. Make sure the track of the clips is the highlighted and active.

    Hey Bill –

You have got to watch out for the 2 frame video delay to audio sync relationship that is part of he down conversion and 2″3 pulldown insertion (one frame for each process) if these are sync dailies. In the capture tool window, there is a menu for audio delay, set it to two frames.

The NTSC down convert will always be 30fps NDF, and that is how the capture will happen. Make sure you set your Film/24p settings to “A” frame relationship for 00:00:00:00 and Cadence is set to NORM.

Once captured, you highlight the entire START timecode column and do a ctrl-D (duplicate) and select TC 24 from the list that pops up. This will convert the 30fps back to 24 reversing the same process that went from 24 to 30 during the down conversion.

You can specify anamorphic 16:9, letterbox 16:9, or 4:3 center crop for the down conversion, but you will want to do 16:9 anamorphic in order to have a pixel perfect conform of all effects, titles, etc.

I would also suggest you decompose the HD version of the seqeunce first to see if the clips now read as HD clips or digitize directly from the sequence.

I would try importing the EDL into an NTSC 23.976 project first – then change the TAB format to 1080p/23.976. Also, when importing into a 1080p/23.976, make sure the project type us correctly set in EDL Manager before doing the import.

Make sure you modifed the sequence first – highlight the seqeunce and choose modify, then format, then 1080p/23.976. If that was already done, load that seqeunce and edit it into a newly created sequence while in a 1080p/23.976 project.

NTSC based projects (23.976, 24fps etc.) all assume a 30 frame capture and the 24 frame timecode management is managed inside the system once captured. This is not the case if you were in a 24 frame HD project which does contain a true 24fps timecode format.

You need to go to the deck settings (depending on deck – Sony 7030, 7040) and change the timecode out to be 30fps Non Drop) If you want to go into a 23.976.fps or 29.96fps project, you will want it to be 29.97fps and non drop.

Capture as 30 then convert the timecode to 24 using the TC 24 column.

The recommended practice for NTSC based 24 frame production it to have audio timecode be 30fps/NDF. 23.976 is 29.9fps/NDF.

You can edit native DV 24fps in a 23.976 NTSC project. If you are on versions 4.6 and earlier, you will need a Mojo for ouptut.

Actually you are looking for a renumbering and not a renaming – the internal structure of the system needs to be aware of this…

    I meant AutoSync, not AutoSequence.

    If any of the tracks are the same, the result of an AutoSync will be a group clip. You can sync via the timeline;

Cut picture and audio as a single event timeline
    Cut BWF as tracks 3+

Highlught sequence in bin and do an AutoSeqeunce.

    Result is a subclip.
