Media Composer 7.2? We only shipped v3 for the latest hardware. Meridien based systems are at v12.x

But that aside, some people use the Matrox out from DVI or use another monitor with full screen on a DVI monitor.

I believe it is a film project heading for now. That will change in futrue versions.

  • Go to Film/24p settings and set:

    1. NORMAL Cadence (2:3:2:3) Assuming the the downconvert was 2:3:2:3
    2. Set pulldown to 00:00:00:00 active and “A” frame

  • I don’t see why going out and back in would have any impact on that… but if it works, it works! That should really be no diffent than a mix down…

Looks great! I wish you the best in selling it. I just finished my two year labor of love feature – producer and editor. Getting it all set up for distribs to look at. right now I am working on creating a digital cinema package for it – a whole thing to learn now.

You can go either way – what you will get in a 25p project is all FX will be processed “frame based”. for example, a PIP moving across the screen will update 1/25th instead of 1/50th so it may appear to be not as smooth depending on speed. Same with rolling titles (vertical), etc.

You can open that bin in a 25i, the warnings are just there to well.. warn you that you are doing it – but you can continue working just fine.

Try a couple things just to compare:

72DPI in case there is some scaling going in during the import.
Import the PSD file instead of a TIFF.

  • Why go through the 2:3 pulldown insertion in After Effects if you are going to speed them up anyway in Media Composer? Try this and I believe you might get a better quality result after the FluidMotion stage; import QT (assuming no audio tracks) with a console command of “ignoreqtrate true” which will bring in the original 24p animation in frame for frame. When playing back, it will now be 25% faster but no field based artifacts. Now calculate you speed up based on that – depending on need, you may actually need to slow down. Fluidmotion then won’t have to deal with the 2:3 pulldown interlace across frames.

    1. For several years now there has been 720p/23.976. I believe starting with v1 MC Adrenaline and v3 or 4 of Xpress Pro.
    2. Yes. I have. Keep in mind when capturing flagged frame only that it will be V only.
    3. If capturing 23.976 or all 59.94 frames, then the flags are not really needed in the capture process. The 23.976 will play at speed and the 59.94 frames will play back 2.5x slower. The flagged frames are needed when shooting frame rates other than 23.976 or 59.94 such as 32, 48, etc.

June 13, 2008 at 12:34 am in reply to: Changing tape names in ALE files

Open the ALE file and look at the first block of metadata at the top of the file. There is a field called “Tape” then a value. Edit the name to what you need it to be.

Also check to make sure there is no column called Tape in the next block of text. The way it works is that the Tape value in the header is the global tape name used if no additional tape names are listed in the “column” and “data” blocks. If there is, values in the the column and data override the header allowing different clips to have different tape names if needed.

An easy way to get them all is to copy the name you don’t want and do a search/replace in a text editor to the name you want. The name of the ALE file itself has no bearing on what gets listed in Avid – it is for consistency purposes only for file management.
