If you are capturing over FireWire, yes. The flags frames will be pulled. See button in capture window to preserve frames or not. Also works for VFR.

I would always recommend editing offline at the same frame rate as the online… you will find yourself in EDL matchback process to get ot the online. As far as capture, yes. Over FireWire Avid will pull the 24 frames as needed. But just to be precise, you will be in a 720p/23.976 project.

You need to do the pulldown removal before editoral. Your best bet would be to use the cadence align feature of the Snell & Wilcox or a Teranex. If this were tape based, you could go through some hoops, recpature, etc, and get there – but file based should be done up front.

Certainly working off of a separate drive(s) will be the easiest way to manage the mediafiles themselves from other project media on the system. You can back up the media, to another set of drives but only do those incrementally as redoing all of the media would be redundant. I tend to be a little less stringent on my media backups. If my sources came from tape, I don’t back those up as it is sometimes easier and faster to just recapture the missing material.
I do back up all imported and file based media twice – such as BWF, VFX, etc. Project and bins can be backed up daily. I just zip the whole folder and give it a date and time stamp.

A group clip will allow you switch to the audio tracks as an alternate take. AutoSync expects all tracks to be unique A1, A2, A3, etc. before a new clip can be created. Making a seqeunce in one way of doing that – just highlight the sequence when done andn AytoSync to create a new subclip.

I was asked to ask you this:
Did the 30i dubs have the same TC as the 720pHD original tapes?
Did you try modifiying the 30i SD sequence in a 1080i project?
In a 720p29.97 project, duplicate the SD sequence, put it into it’s own bin, right mouse click on the sequence, Modify, Set Format, select 720p29.97. This should create a new duplicate sequence with a 720p29.97 Format. Decompose the sequence to the desired resolution. Compare the 720p29.97 sequence to the SD sequence. Do the master clip TC match?Michael

There should be no conversion in EDL Manager – crate 30 frame EDL, save it to the desktop, clear EDL Manager, reimport, and move into the 720p project… Is that what you did?
