Okay so I searched in the archive, but apparently nobody has admitted to this problem(why me Lord!!!)

    Here’s the quick & dirty.

We got into a freebie…the producer shot on DVCPro HD, we did downconverts from 59.94 to DV 29.97. He cuts his offline and now do to schedules we are going to attempt to bring it back to 59.94 in an Adrenaline for our online. We tried a couple of EDL converts from EDL manager(no luck on conversion)..and his OMF gave us wierd source timecodes(none existent ones) what am I missing..I obviously need to be schooled.

    Any info much appreciated.

    thanks

There should be no conversion in EDL Manager – crate 30 frame EDL, save it to the desktop, clear EDL Manager, reimport, and move into the 720p project… Is that what you did?

Hey Michael, thanks for answering in the early morning hour. Thats exactly what I did. When I create a composer sequence from EDL manager, it asks what kind of project..I say 720p 59.94…it creates a sequence for me that matches my cut list. But when I go to batch dig the sequence..it introduces tc numbers that are outside the range of the tape.(ie..tape 1 only goes to 32 min…but list wants shots at 1:34:00) Let me know if you think of anything else.

    Thanks

Hey Steve, He used a Xpress Pro 5.7. His tapes were 29.97 downconverts from the original DVCProHD 59.94 tapes.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

I was asked to ask you this:

Did the 30i dubs have the same TC as the 720pHD original tapes?
Did you try modifiying the 30i SD sequence in a 1080i project?
In a 720p29.97 project, duplicate the SD sequence, put it into it’s own bin, right mouse click on the sequence, Modify, Set Format, select 720p29.97. This should create a new duplicate sequence with a 720p29.97 Format. Decompose the sequence to the desired resolution. Compare the 720p29.97 sequence to the SD sequence. Do the master clip TC match?

    Hey Michael

[Michael Phillips] “Did the 30i dubs have the same TC as the 720pHD original tapes?”

    Yes

[Michael Phillips] “Did you try modifiying the 30i SD sequence in a 1080i project?”

Great idea! I did and will try the dig this afternoon. it looked like the sources came across correct. This does mean doing an upconvert from the DVCPro deck into the Adrenaline, but we get a 1080i master…great

I’ll take a look at this option if the 1080i solution doesn’t work.

I have a saying, “friends don’t let friends edit 720P in Avid.” We do all of our work at 1080 and do the crossconvert out if someone needs a 720P master.

Once you get into the 720 world in Avid, the rest of the world is closed off to you. Don’t go there unless that’s all you ever want to do.

As to your problem, the way I read it, you offlined with downconverts at 29.97 and now you want to do a 720P online? Is that correct? That is a standard workflow and I don’t see where you are having a problem.

Normally you would just modify your 29.97 sequence to a 720P sequence. Why aren’t you following this approach?

Hey Terence, 2 things, 1st thanks for the talk at the Facilis booth at NAB, and 2 for taking the time to listen now.
Okay so, when you say “modify the sequence” I assume you mean taking the 29.97 EDL into EDL manager, then creating a 1080 composer Sequence, then decomposing, and batch digitizing. We did this and it worked except the audio that was output from the offline did not sync. We ended up doing a audio edit and it’s fine now.

[Terence Curren] “Normally you would just modify your 29.97 sequence to a 720P sequence. Why aren’t you following this approach?”

When ever we did this for a 720p sequence, the Adrenaline would tell us to transcode the sequence, but then after that it would give us a framerate error for the batch digitize.

I’m missing something simple. We did get the piece onlined thru the 1080i workflow, so I will definitley take your saying to heart.

    thanks…friend

It’s been a while since I did a 720P session. (For good reason) but I remember it working as suggested. Sometimes you would get interlace vs progressive warnings and a second decompose would usually fix them.

    Hey Terence,

Okay, so you would decompose the sequence, delete the clips & decompose again? I’ll give it a shot..

    thanks again
