Correct. It only deals with the .1% variants of 48kHz. So 48.048kHz and 47.952kHz.

You should be in a 23.976 NTSC project and timeline. With the ALE’s and all, the process is pretty straightforward as far as editorial is concerned. The Avid User Guides actually have a lot of description in this area with workflow, etc. You might want to make sure it is a film project to match the gauge of the format should you ever need to create a pull list for a re-transfer. Better to be prepared for it than the additional work later. It is easy enough to hit one button at first to make this happen.
Once the picture is locked; the facility will most likely ask you what to hand over. The most basic is a 24 frame EDL in a CMX3600 format. But if they are using an Avid product like Symphony, then just giving them the bin with the sequence will do. If finishing on an Avid DS, then an AFE would be the way to go.
Since you are working in SD, you will most likely want to modify your sequence to 1080p/23.976 for all AAF, and AFE beforehand. Right click on sequence for “modify” and change format. Open sequence in a 1080p/23.976 project and do all your outputs.

I assume that film on set was rolling at 24.000fps. When it gets transferred it is slowed down .1%. The audio, at 48kHz on set is in sync with 24.000fps picture. When you work in a 1080p/23.976 project, the picture is still running slower, thus your drift against audio that is still at 48kHz.
The sound should be recorded at 48.048 on set knowing you will be posting 24.000 picture at 23.976.
To fix sync, you can use a free application like Wave Agent from Sound Devices (download) and set the sample rate to 47.952 for your clips. Then import – it will be in sync. Make sure your audio import settings is set to deal with the +/- .1%. Timecode may vary by the number of sample from midnight…
Get your sound guys to record at 48.048 as soon as you can. Or work in a 1080p/24.000 project type.

I have used consumer style rear screen projection monitors with shutter synced glasses. You can do so my using one of the DVI connections on the graphics card in “full screen mode” and set the full screen setting to “checkerboard” and it will work. While this works some users do not want to give up a screen and full screen play is not as smooth as hardware based output.

If it’s for DVD you don’t have much of a choice but MPEG2. Have you tried that? Even with a constant bit rate, a 30 minute show should fit on a disc.

If your monitor is set to 4:3 in MC, and you are monitoring the track that has the reformat/pan & scan it looks normal, then exporting a QT reference of that will be 4:3 in the output.

What compression settings are you usning? What size? What frame rate? I did a 90 minute feature with iPhone settings and ended up being 500MB.

When you use the installer, select “custom” and make sure the installer is checked. Latest versions of MC5 introduced a single installer and uninstaller for all the applications.
