Does the sample rate and bit depth differ from the project setting by chance? It does seem strange that you can see it on the clip before syncing. You might need to clear the waveform cache and see of that clears it up for you after it rebuilds.
In the project folder, there is a folder called WaveformCache. Delete its contents. Relaunch and wait a bit while they rebuild and see if that fixes it.

They already mentioned that was coming in 8.4 (keeping source size in an HD project). It will be a DNxHR codec when it does.

Can you see them in the source monitor when switching the timeline view to source monitor and enabling waveforms there? And can you see them on the original source files before syncing them?

It’s a little wonky with 1080 projects as DNxHD is not a scalable codec like the new DNxHR which allows any XY up to 6K to be transcoded and maintain its original XY. In a 1080 project, it will transcode as 1440 inside 1080 and keep the metadata for reframing, but you are not getting the quality at that point as a transcode makes 1080 media. If you use FrameFlex on that media, you can relink to the original files after the fact and then transcode the reframed 1080 sections. If that makes sense.

Link via AMA and set target in source settings to be 1920 x 1080.The you can have the Y axis to play with.

Are you saying you can’t see the waveforms on the newly created .sync clips? In the source monitor or record monitor? What version and OS?

I have used it when it was Eyeon with the Media Composer connector and it has been great. It is deep and the learning curve will be high depending on what you need to get done.But great quality and control.

As far as the sequence goes, since the AAF roundtrip bakes in the conform and color, you may need to refresh the sequence once back into Media Composer. I have found this necessary with things like FrameFlex (although there are still workflows that it can trip up on). So with sequence in record monitor, go to clip/sequence/ refresh all. Let us know what happens!
