“switch from shooting an upcoming series of reality TV shows from the Red to the EX1”

I used 3-EX3’s for an Animal Planet series (Faithful Friends) back in September and it was a really good choice.

I would suggest the EX3 over the EX1 for a few reasons.

Having the ability to change lens is great, and having at least one Fujinon ACM -21 (2/3 lens adapter) together with a nice 2/3 ENG lens is great for your long lens needs, or if your budget permits go for the Digi-primes.

The EX3 also gets you matching timecode on each each.

I also used the RM-B150 remote to match the cameras. I had a DIT that shaded each camera connected to its own RM-B150 remote controller where he balanced all the cameras for each segment throught the day.

We also recorded directly to a Mac Pro in Pro Rez or to the new Convergent Design Flash XDR that now records 100 Mbps .mov and soon to MXF file extensions depending on your post needs. I didn’t really need this but wanted to make the best possible image I could.

I couldn’t imagine needing to shoot the Red system for a reality show but if the producer thinks there will be a long shelf life for this broadcast reality show then 4K may be the way to go.

    Good Luck

January 23, 2009 at 3:16 pm in reply to: really cheap express card reader that works…

I found this to be a really good deal. Transcend 16 gig SDHC with the plastic card case and a SDHC-USB reader.https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208377
You can purchase the same Transcend card for $3 less but it is nice to have the small plastic case and reader for such a small price more. I made the miss take of only purchasing 2 of the combo when I ordered not knowing the lowest price didn’t come with the case.

Lithium ion batteries are one of the best energy-to-weight ratios sources of power with no memory effect, so go ahead and recharge them when you need to.

I have the Century .6x wide angle and it has a little distortion, it is only used with full wide on the stock EX lens in macro. I think the lens you are asking about can zoom through. I don’t do wedding so I don’t really need it to zoom. Century makes really good products and almost a year ago they only had this .6x that worked for the EX1.

January 21, 2009 at 2:05 pm in reply to: Two EX1s – colour balance not matching

I was recently at CES shooting two EX3 cameras and suddenly the handheld unit (set to auto white balance) went really blue and I ended up using the Reset All to clear up this issue. There where so many different booths displaying amazing colors that I’m sure it overwhelmed one of my EX3, however the second static EX3 was OK. I thought this was strange but in the heat of the battle I rest all and it came back and I didn’t think much of it until this post.

Have you tried to reset the camera?

I think you may need to change to a progressive format.

  • I think I’m now willing to part with my Z1 if you are interested. I have a few accessories I could use the money for and it just sits on a shelf. You can find my email on my profile if you are iterested in a good used Z1U.

I think you may be officially right but somehow there is space fill with something. Interpolation is a guessing game.
