Is is possible to import playable footage back onto the SxS cards?

Copying an XDCAM mp4 file into the camera doesn’t appear to work. The camera won’t read it. The Final Cut option “Sony XDCAM Export” creates an MXF file which the camera also does not recognize. I’m assuming the camera also needs all the other files (SMI, PPN, XML, BIM) along with the MP4 to play a clip.

Might there be a way to extract these files from the MXF Final Cut makes?

    Thanks for your help!

It seems you’re part way there. Use the Sony XDCAM Export to create the MP4. Then import the MP4 into ClipBrowser 2.00.01 and it should create the full BPAV folder for you. Try putting that on to an SxS card. You might get a “Restore Media” when you put the SxS back into the camera. You can Execute that. It won’t hurt the file. It’s just fixing a structure issue if found.

I don’t see a clear way of exporting a MP4 with Final Cut’s “Export: Sony XDCAM” option. I always get an MXF when using it.

Final Cut can export to MP4 using the”Export: Quicktime Conversion: MPEG-4″ option but this isn’t XDCAM format and the resulting file doesn’t import into Clip Browser

Edit: Looks like I have an outdated version of XDCAM Transfer. I’ll try again after updating.

Here’s the video I created on using the Sony XDCAM Export tool in FCP.

I may be a bit late on this but this is how I do it…

Export the FCP timeline to the required XDCAM EX format (VBR) directly to the SxS card.

Place the card back in the camera go to the setup menu and select –

OTHERS > CLIP > UPDATE > MEDIA and choose the SxS card that has the exported sequence.

Then it’s all good! It will show up in thumbnails on the camera as well as the XDCAM transfer software on the puter.

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

Good tip! Nice explanation of the Clip/Update feature. It’s native to the EX3 but the EX1 gets that menu option with the 1.11 firmware update. The update button builds the BPAV folder.

I think that the easier option is the XDCAM Export option in FC.
But you must check the .mp4 when you go to the SxS card:

Right from the time-line. Really fast: No Re-compression, no loose because is just a re-wrap back.
Just select format. FC set the SxS card as the destination if is in the slot.
    Cheers,

Sorry Craig. the truth is that the first time was taking too long to download the video took and I didn’t fully watched.
As you did it I think is interesting when dealing with independent clips, because you keep the original clip name and TC.
So far I’ve been uploading some full sequence from the time-line. No clips.
