This is a new COW feature. Unfortunately there are issues with playback. The tutorial I uploaded was only about 6MB which should be very fast playback. It seems COW makes the file size much larger or has a slow buffer issue.

One reason to keep the original is that you have to change stereo audio to dual mono as XDCAM MP4 and MXF will only handle mono audio tracks.

I’d be posting more tutorials but yes, playback is painfully slow even with very small file size.

Hi Craig,
Is not the fault of the video, is just the speed that my Internet connexion allow me tonight.
BTW it’s supposed to be a 4GBs limit when exporting to XDCAM. had you tried to export more than that?
As you point you need to change the audio to two mono channel to export. I had to do the same to the sequences I exported. Mostly I’ve been uploading to the SxS card to recapture as SD in Proress. Pefect and fast downscaling.

Another great if not unknown feature of this ‘timeline to XDCAM to SxS to camera’ treatment is that the timeline’s timecode is embedded into the final media file – and more important, when you play it on the camera out the HD-SDI connector to a HDCAM deck switched to ‘sdi timecode’ your original timeline timecode becomes the HDCAM’s master timecode – W A Y T O G O ! ! !

Just put the EX-1 footage in an EX-1 sequence and hit “Export to SONY XDCAM”.
Just be careful don’t try to export more than 4GB.

I don´t have the option to export to the XDCAM EX formats – and I get the message “the current sequense settings are unsupported – see the screenshot:

Make sure you have most recent versions of Sony software.
ClipBrowser 2.00.01
XDCAM Transfer 2.8.0
Final Cut Pro 6.0.5
Make sure you’re using an XDCAM EX easy setup.
Select the Sequence and use Sequence Settings and make sure Audio Output is set to Dual Mono

Do you know if the EX1 has embeded Audio on the SDI outputs?
I want to conect it to a “digibeta” – do you know if there are any problems?

Hi Christoph,
Yes you have the two audio channels embed in the SDI.
I haven’t tried to capture to DigiBeta, but I did capture through the AJA ioHD to my Mac.
Works great.
