I have a silly question:
My film was 2 perf 35mm (2.35:1) and I did a 2K scan, to finish at 1920×1080 (with an image are of 1920×817 for the 2.35:1 frame matted in) for HDCAM-SR delivery. I just finished my credits and I have used the wonderful expression here to get nice and smooth credits. My only question is this: Should my credits also be 2.35? Should my AE comp be 1920×1080 and scroll the 16:9 frame vertically or should the comp be 1920×817 and maintain the 2.35 frame?

What i’ve tried to say that a speedchange of 0.1 %, not 1 %
100.1 is indeed 0.1 percent more than 100…My bad, sorry.

smart tools for video pros “I guess my problem is here is simply the math!! Forgive me, but if I am understanding this correctly, then I should be doing things right: When I apply the speed change in final cut pro, I have to set it to 100.10 percent, not 100.01 percent to re-sync the AIF file. 100.1 works and that is the correct speed change.

June 1, 2010 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Perhaps some clarification re: 23.98/24 and audioI have been 23.98 throughout. Even though the scans are at 24fps, I am working in a 23.98 sequence (with gluetools telling FCP that the scans are 23.98 clips). He must have been working in protools at 24 and not 23.98. Still can’t figure out why the speed change needs to be 100.10 percent and not 100.01 though.

June 1, 2010 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Perhaps some clarification re: 23.98/24 and audioI definitely got back 24/48, but the only way it syncs up is with a speed change to 100.10%
My files were 24fps, but I wanted to work in a 23.98 timeline and was under the impression that with GlueTools, I can import the DPX stacks at 23.98 without incident. I want to know what the heck is going on with the sound side of things that I have to do a 100.10% speed change to sync things up??
Initially, when I sent over the files, he worked in a 16/48 project, but I told him that was unacceptable so he switch to 24/48. The odd thing, I sent him 4 reels and 3 of the 4 needed the speed change. One of them was fine. He is telling me he didn’t do anything different between the 4 reels.
Any mixers care to jump in and take over 🙂

I have Pro Import so I can receive the OMF back from Pro Tools. I have a project that had to have some post audio mix cuts and want to keep things streamlined.

I guess you could do that. The issue is, the amount of time it would take me to go into FCP and read the timecode off the DPX stacks and then manually enter that into each new Composition, I can just reconform manually 🙂

Strange…I just discovered a weird quirk in the FCP – Color – FCP roundtrip! If a DPX stack doesn’t have a “REEL” name, but others in your sequence do, then XML transfer will fail. My issue wasn’t related to AE’s workspace at all!

Color management is off. I have the project set to 32bpc. I am not (nor do I want to) doing any conversions. I am working with Gluetools and FCP and I am letting that plugin do the loglin conversion.
I may be off, but what I want to accomplish is basically “pass through” the properties of a DPX file with an effect added. Is that possible?
