Does the same issue occur when you play it in XP?

I would suggest trying to export in a different codec. I’m not sure what codecs you have available on your Avid machine, but I would try exporting a segment in either direct NTSC DV/DVCAM or as an h.264 just to see if the problem is consistent across codecs.

I hate to break it to you, but if you’re wanting to work with photos in FCP, you’re going to have to render them. Especially if you want to do moves and effects on them. These are elements that FCP has to generate, therefore they will always need to be rendered when ever they are added to a sequence.

    Hi Seth,

It sounds like your hard drives might be spinning down when they’re not in use. What this means is that every time you reach a point in your timeline that needs to access footage from a different drive, if that drive hasn’t been used in a while it may have spun down and needs to spin back up in order to get to your footage. This might be the cause of your lag.

If you haven’t done so already, go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and make sure “Put The Hard Disc(s) to sleep when possible” is not checked.

If that’s the case, you might want to consider a larger shared storage option so you can keep all the footage essentially in one place.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Eric,

Try deleting old render files that you don’t need any more. Have you changed any of FCP’s default settings?

Do you keep your media & render files on a separate scratch disc?

    Hi Alvin,

I’m not familiar with your camera, but when you plug the camera in, does it mount like a hard drive on your desktop? If it does, you might be able to just drag the files over to your desktop to copy them locally.

Did the camera come with any software?

    Thanks Andrew & George!

2 people having problems with the update is enough for me. I’ll be holding off for a while.
