    OK, having a weird problem – and I’m not sure how to explain it except for a partly gamma-shifted frame. Here’s a link to to a screenshot: Gamma Shift

    The file is a self-contained export from Avid Xpress 5.8.4.438 running on Windows XP SP2 using Quicktime 7.3. Avid Quicktime codecs are installed. Codec settings for the .mov:

    AVID DV Codec, 720 x 486, Millions
    16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz

    I’m trying to play the file on a Mac, running Leopard 10.5.6 using Quicktime 7.6, and then downgrading to 7.3. No change.

    Has anyone seen this problem before? Any fixes?

    Does the same issue occur when you play it in XP?

    I would suggest trying to export in a different codec. I’m not sure what codecs you have available on your Avid machine, but I would try exporting a segment in either direct NTSC DV/DVCAM or as an h.264 just to see if the problem is consistent across codecs.

    Hey Michael, thanks for the response.

    The files play fine on XP and on other OS X machines in our office – Tiger and Leopard. We’ll test some other codecs, but it’s weird that this one machine is having problems. I’ll get back to you.
