Sorry for the slow response. Grrr. I wondered if that was pushing the interface. Not one who fully understands the mechanism of why/why not, the practicality of “Is it made to work?””No” is close enough. I assume hacks might be of the tonymacx86 (or other)-type? Indeed, in disk utility it shows my flash drive has a partition with a “Core Storage Logical Volume Group”. Not looking forward to terminal work on a brand new machine…

Skip the trash, Disk Utility is your friend. It will tell you if you have permissions, and if so, you can reformat/erase the drive. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is the format choice for Macs, if you’ve not used the program much. See if that helps…

OK, so the goal is to work with FCP7 files. I’m still working with my original 2010 files (FCS3 on a 2010 13″ originally w/10.6) on 10.8.5 Mt. Lion . So be aware, you can move forward that far with no risk to access. I was able to downgrade from trying Mavericks (CS5.5 crash issues), and that’s where I want to stay for now. Best of old and new.
The issue may be if your new machine (you don’t mention any specific models…) came with 10.9 Mavericks as original equipment. I have the same issue with a new 2014 model (11,3) running Yosemite (“…a world of hurt.” as Jobs would say). Older software may not have the drivers to run the newer hardware, and Apple NEVER upgrades that, only security patches. So I don’t know if you will ever get Snow Leopard on your new machine, but if it came with at least Mt. Lion (10.8.x), you should be able to downgrade back. Downgrading before (your machine was produced), may not ever be possible with Apple. Hope some of this is helpful… -

Sorry for the late reply, but hardware/software info helps. My 2010 13″ MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.5 mountain lion burns/reads files no problem (OWC/Pioneer burner). I think the max storage/cost limits projects, and you have to have a reader for each disc to consider it added storage. They mostly bring full HD to the disc, although spinning discs seem to be going away slowly in light of SSDs.
I use 3.5″ bare drives in a “dock” for archiving, storing them in stackable boxes (inside a Pelican box). This is the cheapest/most flexible choice for me, although they require running the drives regularly (30 days is the longest I leave one). Hope this helps… -
Sorry for a late response, but I’ll jump in. First, this is a question best posted on the Audio Professionals forum: if it’s sound, they rule. However, as a DSLR feature DP I can tell you: beg or borrow lights, but PAY for a sound pro.
In a one man band scene, I own the video mic pro, and it comes down to the directional pattern of the two mics: super/hyper-cardioid (VMP) or cardioid (SVMP). Since the camera is rarely as close as optimum for audio, I chose a “tighter” pattern to isolate what the lens is pointing at. It does have a “hot spot” directly behind the camera to be aware of, so position/choose what’s best for you. These patterns are on the Rode website, specs are really close between the two. Sorry for the late response, but I’ve been thru the last four OSX versions from necessity. Loved Snow Leopard, (came with the laptop) but PluralEyes needed Lion, so I upgraded. No problems. Skipped Mountain Lion (at first), no apps I owned needed it.
Mavericks comes out: free. Followed this forum for issues, seemed OK, so I upgraded. Well, CS5.5 is not (will not be) fully compatible (Encore specifically). Need at least CS6 (and maybe Cloud now) to work, so I went back to a time machine of Lion.
Since I shoot as well, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera needs Mountain Lion or later. Can’t find it at the App Store, but lots of copies on Ebay (disc form, no download). Runs my FCS3 and CS5.5 (don’t have Avid sadly, but Kevin P. McAuliffe says it works: so it does), and that would be my call. It’s the newest established system, with enough time for 3rd party apps to conform.
Hope to have a Hackintosh built by the time I need Mavericks. All Apple’s new computers are nearly impossible to change/upgrade from the factory build (i.e 2nd video card,SSD, etc.). The post-Jobs Apple is a sad reflection of the former…

Yeah so,
I can venture to say Encore (5.1/CS 5.5) has issues with Mavericks. AE and Premier are fine, Encore locks up as before (even after a full uninstall/reinstall). Neither opening the program, or using dynamic link stops this from happening. Gonna tack this up to the 5.1 version (and 32 bit) no longer supported since the CS6 version went 64 bit. Upgrade or die…

I’m honored. Copy that, hate to give money to Apple so I’ll probably Hackintosh there. So FTP’s don’t mix (i.e SDI/HDMI). My naivety comes from how I wish things could be, but each of these connection syndicates have a vested interest in not playing well with others. Thanks for the reality check…
