Hi Mack, video vs stills (except high burst-rate stills) is just a matter of the speed of the card. There are many established brands, but check out https://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 for the most thorough testing I’ve found. Good luck, ML

Hi Patrick, check out robgalbraith.com: under the CF/SD category is the”Card-to Computer; SD/SDHC Readers” article. It’s really thorough. What I got out of it was whether you need the speed shooting, you get much faster download times (especially if you have to offload to shoot). SanDisk Extremes seem to me the choice, but card size does matter. Good luck…ML

Welcome aboard Rosh, nice work with people is a strong point of the DSLR. You exploit that well in the ballad. I’ve been approached by a French punk artist, and am a little worried about high “action” shots (with strobes too). Shoot, shoot, shoot…and share. We all get better…good luck, ML

In direct response to your question, the magic of these cameras(to me) is the depth of focus (that fuzzy background, distant lights in bokeh). Low ISO is first choice (100 or multiples of 16 if possible),fast prime lenses (down to f1.4)from 16mm fisheye up to 85mm (depending on your space to shoot).The “…dramatic and cinematic…” part is really up to you and the lighting. You don’t give a lot of details on the “project”, “props” (like models?), or “shoots so far ” (indies, commercials,etc.), so I don’t have much more. No greenscreen suggested; and the 5d has the full sensor so if you need to exploit field of view, put your widest/longest lens on it. Good luck…ML

Hey Neil, days late, BUT: I’m using the original battery with 2 “Power 2000” LP-E8 for backups(2 to burn while one charges). They cost about 9$ each (WAY cheaper than Canon), and seem to have close to as much run time, and work in the charger BUT!: they give almost NO warning in the battery life window (just starts flashing red-dies in>30sec.) so YOU need to “time” them yourself, anytime the camera is shooting OR playing back review. I know there is some risk using aftermarket product, but that’s why we talk about it; so far I’m real satisfied and learned to gauge the life well. p.s. using class 4 cards too(Sandisk Ultra); only once seen the “wait/writing” warning on the cam. Biggest loss I see there is offload is slower, depending on your system (check out Rob Galbraith DPI: Card-to-Computer:SD/SDHC Readers)
