Foe best results, bring the footage in and transcode down to a flavor of DNxHD, and key off of that. Much better. Yes, you take a hit in time to create the initial DNxHD file, but it pays off later because you save time on the transcode for export, plus, the playback of the key will be easier on the machine (less potential stutter)

Child’s play!

MVC is a toughie. Real Time isn’t a reality, as far as I know. I believe Sonic and NetBlender MAY be doing it, but it’s really new and isn’t real time – all file based. I believe Digital Rapids and Inlet are looking into it as well, but no ETA just yet. No consumer or prosumer ready-to-use apps exist just yet to accomplish MVC encoding, although there are a few websites with command line stuff or a hodge podge of 3d party stuff if ya feel so inclined.

Is your media transcoded to DNxHD or is some of it linked via AMA? EDL and AAF exports can be problematic if the media isn’t in a DNxHD format.

Also, try exporting an AAF with small chunks of media until you can find what media may be causing the problem.

You have a few things working against you.

FCP is a 32 bit app, and the XDCAM codec really isn’t the best as multicore usage. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it could be better.

I would hope that your timeline matches a majority of your clips, so you do not have to render everything. Thatw ill help out.

You could use the virtual cluster in Compressor, although that is not 100% reliable.

I am also a fan of Telestream’s encoding product line, especially Episode. That really lights up the cores, so you could feed it a QT Ref from FCP and let it encode away.

Yes.

Both 3D Toolbox and the MB do not have the ability to split eyes to different outputs, etc. so you will have both eyes (muxed) on a single output, and as you mentioned, the monitor must understand it.

3D Toolbox has always supported any output the host app supports.

A new version will be almost $2500. Not much you can do – that’s how much it costs.

Academic is the only new “version” you can buy that has a deep discount.

Buying an old version is completely legit, and then buying the upgrade. For example, buying a MC 3.5.x dongle for $1200, then paying the $495 upgrade, is still only $1695 – less than a full new version.

Your Sequence is at 1080p25, your output is at 1080i. Rectify the output to match the sequence and see if that helps.
