  • Strange…. You could also command shift D the layer at that point and adjust accordingly.

Not really looking for compassion. Prerendering only helps if it’s a comp that’s causing the problem, the large images are just images so there’s still a problem there.

That large image actually is a comp, so I set a proxy PNG file and tweaked some more settings. It now renders at the same size! Thanks for all of your help. I’m still curious why I get this error so much. I notice it crashes when these large comps and images are being scaled up to a huge amount due to their null parent.

Should I leave multiprocessing off given my issue?

There is a preset effect called fade in and out frames which might prove helpful for this issue. It does a fade up and out based on frames you specify and the in and out of the layer regardless of where it is on the timeline.

Thanks for the quick reply. I should have mentioned that the exact error happens with multiprocessing turned off.

  • I was about to ask if there was scripting or software for AE like Digital Heaven’s Loader and saw this. I’m on a project that screams the need for something like Loader. You can always collect files, but sometimes It’s very important to have it all moved immediately while the project is in progress.

  • Getting the same issue running CS4 on a Mac Pro 2 x 3 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon Mac OS X 10.5.7
    Nvidia GeForce 8800GT

Happens when dragging from either Finder, or from window to window within AE. And happens with almost all my projects. No Edius stuff that I know of. It could be footage, a still, or even an effect applied to a layer….weird…

Thanks for your help Dave. Looks like it was corrupt media. Oddly enough the same clip plays fine on my macbook pro…

I’ll play with it this evening when I get near my computer. I have found another thread where they think it is a ram issue so I’ll check that too.

“There’s also the possibility that you don’t have the proper, and oftentimes seemingly-mystical, version combination of OS, AE and Quicktime.” —–What is the winning combination of these versions? I have the latest versions of each.

    Nicola,
I have a very similar configuration to yours and have brand new ram installed in the same manner as you, 10GB. I have to wonder if that is the issue because my problems seem quite similar. The only difference being, when I get the beach ball during ram preview, I often have to force quit the app because it never comes back. This evening, I’ll play with different ram configs and see if that is in fact the issue.
