Disconnect it every time? We don’t, and haven’t had problems.
When your Avid isn’t running I can only assume it’s in standby mode–like when you don’t turn your DVD player off but there’s no disk in it. It just sits there with some lights blinking and raising your electric bill by a few pennies.
Regarding the EMP plugin–we installed our Avid software first, then the EMP and all of them work fine.

As far as fixing Qtime export problems and DVD making–not sure, I don’t make DVDs. However, if you’re having dropouts after conversion it’s likely your third party DVD or compression program and not Avid. Have you tried doing a mixdown before exporting a Qtime reference? It’s a nuisance, but common practice for best quality and to solve a lot of issues.

Grinner is right–Avid’s effect handling need major improvement, and this is the perfect example of why. You need to animate each layer seperately–or better yet, take it to After Effects or another compositing app and do it there. It will probably be faster and give you better results.

If you have an Adrenaline you should have the Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) set of plugins (they come with an Adrenaline purchase).
Look for the Boris Witness Protection plugin. It’ll blur what you want and has a pretty decent motion tracker. Use it to blur the privates and motion track it–then you’ll just have to set a few keyframes to correct it if it goes astray.

I use targa, tiff, or png sequences. I prefer png, personally.
Open a bin, File–>Import. Set up your import based on size, color space, field order, then for alpha choose Invert Existing. At the bottom left of the import box you’ll see “Detect Sequential Files” or something like that (not in front of the system right now). Check this box. This will make Avid recognize your image sequence when you select the first frame. Hit Import. Done!

No. AXP handles OMF and MXF. You decide which you want in your project settings.
2-Will DV50 play off of a single (obviously unstriped) firewire800 drive?
I’d think so. I’ve played 2:1 off firewire so I imagine DV50 wouldn’t be a problem..
3- Multicam on AXP – will it do 9 streams or only 4? AND will it play 4 streams (or 9) in DV50 or should I capture at DV25?”
If it doesn’t play DV50 well, transcode to DV25, cut your multicam, delete the DV25 and relink to DV50.

Are you using Nucleo and Invigorator Pro/Classic? Are you actually dropping your textures in the timeline and setting them to layer maps, or assigning them in the Set Up window by pointing to the file on your hard drive? I posted the same problem here a few days ago:

I haven’t heard anything on a fix, but did find a workaround. I posted it in the link above.
Basically, if you go into the set up window and assign a layer map by actually pointing at the file it drops it when you render with multiprocessors. If you actually drop it in your timeline and assign it to a Layer Map through Invigorator, it works. Or it has for us. Really limits what you can map, though, since there are only 8 or 9 layer maps.

Check the SpeedRamp plug-in out:
I haven’t used I’ve used the 3prong ColorFix and it’s great, and I’ve heard other’s praise the SpeedRamp plug-in. You can download it and try it–it will render with a watermark, but if you like it you can buy it, enter the unlock code, and the watermark goes away (after rerendering, of course).
Otherwise, Boris RED has some good motion controls, if I remember right.
