Alright… I have 3 Pict files with Alphas. I have imported them so they are Keyable.

I have them on three layers and each one has a separate move until they end up in a stack.

Then, I want the stack to move as a single unit. So I collapse (nest) the 3 layers into one and add a Blend (Warp) effect.

But when I move the image, it also includes a duplicate of the background layer. The BG layer is NOT inside the Nest. It is actually two layers below the Nest.

I have had this problem over the years and cannot seem to find a solution. I have added blank layers below and above within the nest… outside the nest… I tried option dragging the 3D Warp effect onto the Nested sub-master.

I keep hearing from editors that this is possible to do but no one seems to know how.

    Any help?

    Thanks

PS I am on a Mac Adrenaline although this has been a problem I have had going back to the old Avids 10 years ago.

your best bet is to just animate them seperately.

Grinner is right–Avid’s effect handling need major improvement, and this is the perfect example of why. You need to animate each layer seperately–or better yet, take it to After Effects or another compositing app and do it there. It will probably be faster and give you better results.

You blend warp effect is on the surface layer so it affects everything below it looking down. The easiest way to achieve what you want is to do an “add edit” to your three layers at the point you want them to move together. Then create the move in one of your matte effects. Then open the effect window, and grab the effect icon (top of the window) and drag it to a bin. Now drop that effect icon on your other two matte effects. they will now have matching moves.

Leave one blank video track between your nest and the background. That will prevent the efx on your nested tracks from affecting the background track.
