Nope. A sequence or subsequence is simply a string of clips. There’s nothing connecting the clip to a sequence or subsequence, so it will always matchback to the clip.

The Meridien codec should be there. I still use it for everything I export from AE. Weird that it’s missing.
Media Composer 3.x handles imports much, much faster than previous versions. I think it’s coded to use as many cores as possible to convert the media on import, so fast imports don’t seem as fast anymore. They’re all pretty fast.
With fast import, I’ve also noticed that if I have it set to RGB it’s not a fast import. If I set it to 601 color it does. Did you have your color set to 601? If not, try changing it to that and see if the fast import happens.
As far as imverting the Animation codec–I can never remember what codecs require inverting, so I just choose Use Existing and reimport if I got it wrong. I thought all non-Avid codecs required Invert, but who knows. At one point I had to invert all of my Meridien files to get the alpha to show up.

1.1x doesn’t support alpha channels. Is this HD? If not, why not use the Meridien Uncompressed codec? It’s certainly alpha channel friendly.

What system are you on? This was a bug for a few versions. In Media Composer 3.x it’s fixed and stays on whatever you set it.

Are you seeing Red lines show up on your timeline? If so, you’ll need to render the effect. Otherwise, select your keyframes and adjust the Acceleration on them. It will help ease in and out of your moves and should smooth playback.

Either upgrade his Xpress Pro to Media Composer for $500, or roll back his OS to whatever was supported with Xpress 3.5. XP Pro maybe? Or Windows 2000?

Do you have an In point? If so, it will go by the In point, not the position indicator.
Also, try making new user settings. Yours might have been corrupted somehow (it happens sometimes).

Same way, but you’ll need to map Extend Edit to P. It’s different by default in Media Composer 3.x, I believe.

What’s the sample rate of the audio files, and what’s the sample rate of your project? If you go into your Audio settings you can change the sample rate, or set your system to convert sample rates on the fly. If you don’t have it set to convert sample rates on the fly and your sample rate of the audio doesn’t match your project you won’t hear anything.

If my projects are between 4 – 8GB I used to backup to DVD, but anymore I backup to hard drives. I have an external case and just pop new drives in and out as needed. I consolidate the final master sequence to the drive and copy over all music, graphics, and project files (including After Effects, etc…).
If it’s a larger project I don’t always back up the media because we still shoot on tape. If I ever have to bring a project back to life I open the project, select the sequence and hit Batch Capture. Pop in the tapes and enjoy my coffee!
If we make the transition to P2 I’ll back everything up to hard drives. Twice.
