If you are ingesting it by recapturing the original DVCam footage, then you can recapture as an anamorphic timeline without quality loss. If you simply recapture the letterbox playout then no, as Shane said you are resizing and losing quality.

If your sequence is HDV then you can set the render codec to ProRes. No need to change your sequence or drop the edit into another sequence. In the render settings you have the ProRes option. It is a faster and better render than staying native HDV.
As for the text problem, I haven’t ever experienced that, as I mostly play out to tape, not file.

DV is interlaced lower field first. The camera is recording a progressive image within the interlaced frame. This is normal and the setting of lower field is also normal.

I found a review online that mentioned this camera as well, but claimed the Canon was superior, particularly that the Nikon had exposure flutter on panned shots if left in auto exposure.
Of main interest to me was the claim that the files off the camera could be dropped straight into an FCP sequence without conversion like P2 & XDcam as they were H.264 mov files.

I looked at the link. Great images. I then looked up the camera and all I could find about the movie mode was that it was 1080P and recorded to .mov, but no mention of the record codec? Do you know what it was?
Really impressive for a cheap camera.

FCP can handle XDCam and HDV in the one timeline and it adjusts the HDV from 1440 to 1920. You would chose a sequence preset for the XDCam codec you shoot. However, the Z1 will not look as sharp as the EX1. This is more about lens resolution. To me the EX1 looks much nicer and is much sharper optically.
You might want to read the manual on multicam editing, but basically you can do a vision mixer style cut in this mode. How it will work with mixed codecs, I can’t say as I haven’t tried to do that. This link, although a few years old, explains the basics

It is risky as you don’t have timecode doing this so if you are capturing to tape or file at the same time, they won’t match code. If you don’t shoot backup on tape, then the files are your master.
