We are wanting to do a multiple camera setup. We have one EX1 and one Z1U. The ex1 shoots at 1080×1920 and the z1u shoots at 1080×1440. We are wanting to intercut between them both, but obviously there the frame resolution is different. If we put them both into a 1080×1920 sequence and edited between the two cameras would they match? Will final cut manage to work out the difference (ie make up the extra information)?

Also can final cut do like a live capture type thing? So capture to the computer live while shooting?

And is there like a camera sync thing kinda like what you might do with a vision mixer, so it shows you both pieces of video playing at the same time in like two different windows, you can press a key and it will cut between live the two cameras in the timeline? Anyway of doing that kind of stuff?

Thanks in advance for your help.

FCP can handle XDCam and HDV in the one timeline and it adjusts the HDV from 1440 to 1920. You would chose a sequence preset for the XDCam codec you shoot. However, the Z1 will not look as sharp as the EX1. This is more about lens resolution. To me the EX1 looks much nicer and is much sharper optically.

You might want to read the manual on multicam editing, but basically you can do a vision mixer style cut in this mode. How it will work with mixed codecs, I can’t say as I haven’t tried to do that. This link, although a few years old, explains the basics

Live capture in either HDV or XDCAm codec? Not sure but you can live capture by setting the capture to non controlled device. It is risky as you don’t have timecode doing this so if you are capturing to tape or file at the same time, they won’t match code. If you don’t shoot backup on tape, then the files are your master.
