Have you checked the distort values in the motion tab? Also look at the info on the clip and see if the pixel aspect is exactly the same as your sequence.

Did anyone mention the codec? If it is DV then yes text looks ordinary.

Lt/Rt is simply the way a stereo file is called when it is designed for decode by a Dolby Surround decoder (sometimes called Dolby Pro Logic). This doesn’t decode to 5.1 but left, center, right and surround (mono).

You must make sure the left channel is panned hard left and the right panned hard right. Leave the level at unity (no added gain).

As an audio post pro, I can tell you that some issues can be helped with EQ and others with noise reduction tools. In my opinion, FCP is a poor device for proper audio editing and processing. Compared to professional tools, the EQ and dynamics processors are toys.

STP is a tool that I played with briefly and although it is better than FCP, it is also far from the sort of processing I achieve with a Fairlight and CEDAR noise reduction tools. By all means expolre the noise reduction tools in STP but if you are dealing with a commercial program for broadcast, you shouldn’t be using FCP or STP to finish your sound track.

These days PAL delivery is always 16:9 anamorphic (or full height as the broadcasters normally spec it.)

You have the option of setting the renders to be ProRes in you XDCam sequence, which is an excellent option. I do it all the time with HDV and I have done it that way with XDCam onlines and it is a good workflow.

I second the idea of using hardware to do the downconvert to SD. Dropping a sequence into a 10 bit SD timeline and rendering takes a long time to produce an image that is softer than a hardware convert.

Actually, on beta SP the 1khz tone should be set to 0 VU. -18dbfs is only for digital scale machines, not old analog SP.

I would assume full frame 75% bars but it varies depending on broadcasters. International masters that I produce always have full frame 75% bars.

Color will not run on a G4. I can’t run it on a G5 without upgrading my graphics card.

Unless you have seriously good software, changing speed and maintaining pitch is going to sound awful. Slowing down is worst.

It also depends on the %. Anything more than 10% is difficult even for good software like MPEX3 or Serato Pitch & time.

I hate to say it, but if you had captured everything as HDV via firewire, it would have used less space than SD ProRes and there would have been no reason to recapture. However…

Did you include all the audio again or just picture, because it might need to recapture the whole tape for the audio. There is no need to recapture audio – you already have it. Make a new sequence, copy paste your video only tracks and then media manage that. Recapture mute and there should only be the pictures you need plus handles, not whole tapes.

Then copy paste the audio from the original sequence and all should be good.
