DVCProHD and HDV are different codecs

What is the pixel resolution of the stills? I had this issue once on one particular image. It was close to 5,000 pixel width. I made a tiff of the jpeg, reducing the with to around 2K and the render problem went away. It also was much quicker to render.
I also had moves on the image. Perhaps the movement on a big file is a bug.

Which is why I said it wasn’t available yet. I was recommending people look at it as it is a really interesting development.
I am specing my new system and am leaning towards Kona3 as I may not wait for any cards currently in development. However, I may also just keep running my Decklink if I think Red Rocket is worth waiting for.
Either way check it out and be informed before you buy.

I was shown online the Red Rocket card by a friend last weekend. Do yourself a favour and check the specs at the Red site.
Although not really available yet and probably needing a breakout box that is yet to be speced, it looks really interesting, particularly if you are looking for a setup that will see a lot of Red codec.
And, it is claimed to play 4k. The Kona may have a serious competitor but it is very early days.

Regrettably Australia and specifically Tasmania is infamous for the abundance of rare species. Glad you found the tips useful and I hope it helps to save the footage.

Rachel, if you intended to have your edit in HD, then you have captured the footage as DV codec (standard def). This means the capture playback device was set to downconvert the footage to DV.
If you want HD, you will need to recapture, making sure the play device is correctly set to output HDV codec and your Easy Setup is selected to HDV 1080 50i.

Other way around. Quicktime is a wrapper. mp4 is a codec

There is no info about how you are making the DVD. I am guessing that you made a 1920 x 1080 mpeg2 file and then dropped that into something like iDVD which then made a crap SD DVD. If so you are needlessly transcoding through lossy formats.
You need to make the right mpeg2 file for an SD DVD. I go straight from FCP to Compressor and use the best 90 minute SD DVD preset and it looks very good.

I am going one step further and replacing my whole setup with a brand new MacPro with Snow Leopard. The old G5 will be able to be accessed via the ethernet to reinstall software and files that are on the old drive. My software all is backed up on a NAS unit as well. Ditto all old project files and library of logos etc.
In the past I have always upgraded by buying a new drive and having two boot drives in the box so I can always alt/boot the old version on startup.
