Exporting HD Footage
Hello,
We have shot and edited a short film in 1080i. It has been edited in Final Cut Pro and now we are trying to export it to burn to DVD (we’re submitting it to a film festival). We’re having lots of trouble with the quality when we export to Quicktime, and also when we use Compressor. We tried using the HD 30 minutes setting in Compressor, but the MPEG-2 file looked good from a distance, but up close looked almost like a mosaic.
Does anyone have any tips on how best to export this footage for DVD? What dimensions should we use in QT Conversion or should we do something different with Compressor?

Are you making a Standard Def DVD? Or a Blu-Ray HD DVD?

There is no info about how you are making the DVD. I am guessing that you made a 1920 x 1080 mpeg2 file and then dropped that into something like iDVD which then made a crap SD DVD. If so you are needlessly transcoding through lossy formats.
You need to make the right mpeg2 file for an SD DVD. I go straight from FCP to Compressor and use the best 90 minute SD DVD preset and it looks very good.
