We need some basic info like sequence settings, main camera codec, Motion .mov codec, animation .mov codec.

Also how are you monitoring your timeline? FCP computer monitor, external monitor (type and IO card)??

Then export settings to Compressor, what format/codec you are exporting to and how that result is being viewed.

Too many cranky pills Bob. An hour and a half before your rant, Kent qualified his request for info on computer monitors to use when editing with FCP, not external grading monitors –

Firstly DV codec and HDV have the same data rate so you would be losing a lot of quality without reducing the file size.

Broadcasters mostly use mpeg2, particularly for SD broadcast. You should find out what the broadcasters will accept and use Compressor to create a file to their specs. mpeg2 & mpeg4 are as small as you will get for broadcast files and this approach will make for the absolute minimum in file transcoding. (Mpeg4 is the same as H264)

FCP 4.5 will not understand H264 as it is old software. No version of FCP will be happy to edit H264 native so the file needs to be converted to an editing codec. Software like MPEG Streamclip will do the file conversion

If your drive is fast enough, you could make it Uncompressed 10 bit with the same pixel aspect (720 x 576) or at a pinch DV codec (yuck). The audio is the wrong sample rate so it needs to be converted to 48Khz PCM.

H264, although common now is not a universal codec. It would have been better to make the file in an edit codec from the start.

Possibly but you haven’t told us anything about the quicktime file that can help us guess.

Where did the QT file come from? Can you open it in QT player on any machine and find out the codec etc used? Any details about the file and even the verion of QT or FCP used to make the file will help.

FCP4.5 has limited codecs compared to later versions. If the QT is ProRes, XDCam or AVCHD, then you can’t import that into FCP 4.5 . Also FCP4.5 used an older version of QT which means you can’t import QT files with multiple audio channels.

Have you tried applying a shift field filter to the reversed shot? It might be applied after frame blending in which case it might not work.

Nattress filters has a reverse plugin (G Reverse)that fixed field order.

This was back in the earlier days of FCP but may work with FCP7 as you are describing the same old problem that was around in FCP4 days

I am running Snow & 7.0.1 and very happy. Main improvement for me is Color 1.5.1 which is running really well.

That said I am running an internal RAID not esata or fibre. I do use external FW800 drives.

It really depends on what file formats the broadcasters are accepting. HD mpeg2 transport streams are what they use generally but many prefer to encode their own from an HDCam tape.

Perhaps you should be asking them. Compressor of capable of creating HD .mts files but pixel aspects and data rates are up to the broadcasters to spec.
