I am not concerned with what you have done, but FCP can add filters like the shift field and it can change size and distort settings, particularly if anamorphic flag settings are not right.

So if you can check those tabs and if necessary remove any filters and reset distort and motion settings, the need to render and the resulting degrading of you picture may be fixed.

30 seconds of Google searching led me to Loronix wavelet codec which identifies itself as ADV1.

https://www.loronix.com/products/video_clips/wavecodec.asp This is the download page for the codec for Windows 2000 – Win 95 so it looks like an older codec and quite uncommon.

The company behind the codec can be found here
    https://verint.com/video_solutions/overview.cfm?article_level1_category_id=408.

They have a codec zip to download on this page but no info. Perhaps you can contact them and find out what works with their codec pack and how to convert the file into something useful.

And keep this link up your sleve for next time – https://www.fourcc.org/codecs.php

It has a list of obscure codecs and the links to get them.

Did you check the Motion and Filter tabs?

DV/NTSC is one of many options but may not be the most approriate. What is the original codec and frame rate of the .mov files?

There are many ways to make the render bar appear on a clip that matches the sequence settings. Are you adding any title supers to the shot? Are you adding any filters? Have you changed size or distort in the motion tab or applied any rotation to the shot?

Check the motion and filter tab settings to see if there is something going on there.

MP3’s are always a problem. Aif or wav @ 48khz is the only way to edit in FCP regardless of video codec.

  • If each file alternated between video 1 & video 2 and was placed with a 30 frame overlap, then make a 30 frame opacity ramp with keyframes at the head & tail of one clip and then copy>paste attributes>opacity to all clips and you have the desired effect.

Might be faster than opening up each clip and placing I/O markers.

Without info on the computer used and how you are making the .mp4 files (Compressor? settings?), it is hard to compare your render times.

There are accelerators from Elgato and Matrox that speed up mp4’s considerably. If you do a lot of this then it will pay to accelerate.

January 28, 2010 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Audio question in 29.97 timeline to 23,98

I had a job a few years ago that was shot HD @ 23.976 but the only way I could handle the sound post was with a standard def ref picture.

So the OMF was loaded into the system (dSP) into a 29.97 sequence. Importantly it was non drop to match the 23.976 sequence. It worked perfectly and the final mix matched back to the 23.976 sequence because real time was maintained. Changing to drop frame would have stuffed it up. Do a test because the audio post system may not like loading a 23.976 OMF into a 29.97 project.

Not sure how Virtual Katy would handle changes to frame rate. There was reversioning which I had to deal with. I used Cinema tools to make EDLs of both cuts in 29.97 from the 23.976 originals. I then used Editrace (which is an online service), to compare and make a change list. This is the same as Virtual Katy although it is only EDL based. You pay small fee for each EDL change list generated.

This made it frame accurate to reversion. The rules are simple- match real time, use reference pips at the head and tail of the OMF and the mix should be totally in sync.

What does the screen look like in broad daylight? Is it as bright as a timecode slate? Most of the applications you mention are just as easily done with a laptop and some better done with a laptop. The ipad doesn’t multitask so switching between a camera and logging software would be tedious. Touch screen typing has never appealed to me.

Special adaptors are needed for basic things like plugging in a USB device. I must say I am underwhelmed.
