FCP Slow Render Times MP4
I have been making mpg4 files for online distribution. The sequence’s I have been making are between 10 and 20 min in length…
There are between 10 and 15 different video clips in the sequence.. .Most of which are in the XDCAM HD(720) format while one or two are of the h.264 .mov format and 2 to 3 of the XDCAM videos have a PNG with an alpha channel laid over top of them.
All special effects have been pre-rendered to the video (in the xdcam format) before I assemble this timeline.
My latest one is only 10 min in length. The render time on it was 3.5 hours to render and convert it to an MPG4. Is this normal or do I have something messed up.
I tried to render it out just using the quicktime export but the video will freeze for periods up to 1 min in the video footage before catching up to itself… making the video unusable in Compressor.
Any ideas?

Without info on the computer used and how you are making the .mp4 files (Compressor? settings?), it is hard to compare your render times.
There are accelerators from Elgato and Matrox that speed up mp4’s considerably. If you do a lot of this then it will pay to accelerate.
