Does restarting FCP bring back the responsiveness? I experienced some lag on a recent project. Restarting the app helped. It would slow down again after some time.

I’m taking back on my last post. Still better to make favorites and filter by favorite in the browser vs. selex timelines. Reason #1: used media ranges. Quite helpful at the moment.
So my wish is that there would be a way to save a smart collection to the root of the library. Also, would be great if you could search for keywords by text entry vs having to scroll through the list in the search filter box.

I’m working on a job with a Library that contains 18 Events. I’m reverting to creating selects sequences.
It would also be nice to be able to search for an event name if you have a long list of events.

This might help you find the right file to trash. To fix the QT issue, I went into Activity Monitor, pulled up the app and inspected the ports and processes. Had to do a little copying and pasting of the info into textedit, but found the offending folder that way.

I had an unrelated but similar user issue with QuickTime X where it would not allow me to upload to Youtube. Creating a new user allowed me to enter the info. The only reason I bring this up is because it was similar in that it started after the update to Mavericks and was fixed by creating a new user.
However, I found that I didn’t have to create a new user if I trashed files from this folder, rather than the preferences folder: /Users/username/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX
This might not lead you directly where you need, but perhaps it’s a start. I couldn’t find any proapps related files in that folder.

Yeah, I downloaded and installed it. A business specialist came over and we both bonded over it. But alas, I couldn’t leverage our new friendship to get a better discount.
They actually still had FCP 10.0.9 on there. This is because the corporate departments for the disk images are closed for the holidays. So bring a copy of 10.1 with you as well.

Spotty playback in FCP 7. Dropped frames, mostly. Prores HQ support, but technically no standard ProRes support. No ability to convert 23.98 to 29.97 inside the box – not fault of the express, but I’ve been spoiled by AJA hardware and assumed it came standard on vid-out devices. Lately I’ve been getting black frame flashes inside FCP X. Also, not as quick to update during shuttling in the timeline as with the Kona 3 and 3G I had fooled around with before I got it. Blackmagic support not as responsive as AJA.
For standard playback, it’s been ok and yeah it works in all the apps. Just the extras stuff I mentioned and the issues that are bringin’ me down. Ultimately, I’m just picky.

Thanks for that, Oliver. I remember reading about the proxy workflow when you were testing this out on your last project.
One thing I noted is that if you allow FCP to manage the media, and you relink to a different file, then FCP will trash the original media. If FCP doesn’t manage the media (it resides outside the library) then the old clips remain in their location.

I find that the Thunderbolt devices pretty much stay put. But that’s mainly because of cabling and the fact that I have only two computers now. But it is nice to be able to swap out quickly.
Also, I recommend picking up some USB 3 to eSATA adapters in addition to the LaCie eSATA to thunderbolt hub. They’re really cheap and come in handy if you need more than two esata drives connected at a time. You might even consider using those instead of the hub if you’re not using a lot of eSATA drives.
So far, I haven’t run out of space with the number and kinds of drives I have connected to my computer at a time. That said, I have come close!
