I had purchased a Sonnet PCIe expansion chassis and had a Kona 3G card in it. All I can say is that it was loud, but worked fine. I sold it on eBay about 3 months ago.
I would recommend selling what you can and going Thunderbolt where you can. If you need fibre, then yeah, I guess you’re stuck with a PCIe enclosure for now. Just make sure the PCIe card is compatible with the enclosure. That’s one area that bit me when I first bought the chassis.
Also, I ended up going with an Ultrastudio Express – which I don’t really recommend other than for monitoring Resolve. It’s had its share of problems. If I had that to do again, I’d spend the money on an AJA Io XT or the upcoming 4K.

I’ve been requesting this one since it broke way back when. I’m starting to think we should send this bug to the Motion team.

I’m an idiot because I keep hitting CMD-0 to bring up projects.
I see this version a very, very, VERY solid framework for moving forward. It has been rock solid for me so far, but admittedly I have tons of testing ahead of me.
There’s no step backwards. As with any update there are little things here or there that I’d like to see added or fixed. Happily, I’ve yet to find any deal breakers, show stoppers, or things that would keep me from working just as I have been doing for the past year. If anything, my workflow just got a lot better.
I just learned that you can move multiple keyframes together and also copy/paste them to different attributes. That’s definitely a step forward.

It sounds like you’ve really explored all avenues here. But I was just wondering, have you tried creating a blank multiclip and then manually add angles, followed up by going angle by angle to sync to the master sound track? The key here would be to add the clips in the order of time shot.
I’ve found that this sometimes works a little better and is a bit quicker. Still not as fast as pluraleyes, though. But yeah, the Pluraleyes to FCP X workflow is a bit lacking.
