so as not to infuriate M. Blackstone, and for the sake of completeness, let’s change
“which cannot be calibrated by the end user”
    into
“which cannot be calibrated by the end user unless she owns (or rent inside the USA) FSI’s calibration kit

Well, you sure can adujst white point, saturation, brightness, chroma, luminosity. But you can’t tweak the CMS nor the grayscale balance without renting the calibration kit from FSI, and they don’t rent outside the US.

    Hi Mikhail

    nice to read you.

well I did buy an FSI monitor (which cannot be calibrated by the end user), and also I’m buying a new projector ProjectionDesign, (which is supposed to come hardware-calibrated), and whose white point I can adjust by comparing to the FSI.

And I need the cash to open a second office in the other region of Belgium (Wallonia).

    And I found where I can rent a CS-2000 😉 (scientec.fr)

    Hi

I’m facing the same problem. Did you find a solution ?

A dirty solution would be to use Audio Hijack to swap the channels inside SoundFlower…

if you don’t check “field render” in the settings of your project, then Resolve will ignore fields. As long as you don’t resize or blur, you’re good to go, you will get exactly the same fields out as what you put in. This work whatever the output format.

The minute you turn on “field render” in your settings, even without resizing or blurring, Resolve does strange things with your fields which lead to a huge loss of quality. I’ve taken the habit to resize out of resolve interlaced shots that need to be resized, and always work & render without field render.

Also, remember NOT to check “output fields when paused” in your settings. Otherwise you will see only half of the image.

    good luck

[Gabriele Turchi] “and how you send the dvd player (hardware) to the sdi of the ultrascope ?”
I don’t, I send component or composite to the Blackmagic Broadcast Converter, then from there sdi to the Ultrascope

[Vladimir Kucherov] “I wonder if you can send your images to Apple Support,”
I would if I beleived it would change something, but Apple seems much too busy building iStuff. ColorSync and Quicktime have been a mess for yearsI I believe they don’t care.

[Gabriele Turchi] “how did you feed ultrascope from DVD player ?”
DVI out of the graphic card -> hdmi in of the broadcast converter -> sdi out of the broadcast converter -> sdi in of the ultrascope

[Margus Voll] “DVD compresses so heavily all the material that i would be surprised if all this did not happen.
Some color is thrown away etc.

No it’s not related to DVD compression. Here is the same DVD, the same test pattern, as played from a hardware DVD player. The gamma is perfect. The vectorscope is very good, the lines are not straight because the connexion to the Ultrascope was a composite cable, but the colors are in targets.

[Gabriele Turchi] “i will never stop saying that davinci without the davinci control surface “””””is not Davinci”””””
    i “

You wish ! For me (apparently it’s a subjective thing) grading with a Wave is much closer to grading with the Davinci panel than grading without any panel. I’ve used in the past Davinci panel and Baselight’s Blackboard.

When I followed the International Davinci advanced course, nobody cared about the daVinci panel that was available, except for the two novice working in an ad agency that was about to buy the panel. We were debating about the usefullness of the panel, and the guys explained their clients wouldn’t understand if they did not have one, nore would they accept their prices.

Add to the Wave clever solutions such as Robin’s or Blase’s, and you’ve got something very productive.

Of course, you might still need a DaVinci panel if your clients expect you to have one. As Robin’s, my clients could’nt care less about my control surface.

Please Gabriele, Sacha, don’t discourage clever tips from our peers, they are very valuable, and if you feel the tips are worthless or too cheap for you just ignore them.
