    Veil encoding degrades the picture.

    RE Macrovision
    1. You must create a DLT to carry the Macrovision bit.
    2. Your replicator must be licensed to create DVDs with the Macrovision bit on. The cost depends on quantity, but it’s very low.

You didn’t say what sort of deck you are using, but I would guess you are feeding the output of the Avid to the deck. Unplug it during capture.
If you are using a Beta deck, the PB/EE switch may be set to PB/EE. Switch it to PB. I think there are also some menu options for this, but I can’t recall.

January 12, 2006 at 1:29 pm in reply to: DVX Timecode

All the information is recorded over, so striping camera rolls is a waste of time.
To avoid timecode resets, power down the camera – make sure the little red light goes out, before changing the battery.
Do not expect DV to give you seamless code between takes. Allow for preroll.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • As Tim said, you’ve figured out your options. Speaking as a client, we have a standard contracts for creative media production that defines ownership of the finished product and source materials.
Get everything in writing, and confirm changes along the way. It won’t eliminate disagreements, but will make things a lot easier.

I believe this deck will pass line 21. We have a lowly UVW 1200 that does just fine. Look for an encoder with component video I/O..

We use only Verbatim 16x DVD-R, with no problems. However, I have had problems with DVD+R sent to me from outside sources.

The cost to clients is the same as a regular dupe to/from these formats. We’re in-house and very cheap.
