All I can say is that I am hoping for and looking forward to whatever they might do with Motion.
Wouldn’t it be great if they do come out with ‘Motion X’ and take it to a new level?
Though they did some cool stuff with 5, I have a feeling (nothing more) that they have some really interesting things in mind going forward and will release ‘Motion X’ as soon as they are able. I hope it is in conjunction with the big update to FCP X in the next couple weeks.

October 19, 2013 at 6:19 am in reply to: Speculating whether FCPX 10.1 be a paid update? My guess:
1: they will be charging for the upgrade.
2: 10.09 will not be available for purchase any longer and will be updated for bug fixes or major issues if/as needed for awhile.
3: New purchasers will only be able to buy 10.1
4: It will always be called FCP X but . . .5: They will do the upgrades just like they have done with OS X by using a naming convention to differentiate them.
They could be pretty creative using names like historical Oscar winning Editors, Movies, or Directors. Maybe something like names of historical video technologies like cameras or film stock or tools, etc.
How about historical movie theaters.
Ex. – FCP X Tivoli (10.1)

I remember b4 the 2010 upgrade to the Mac Pro – they had a similar bump in speed b4 they did the official upgrade.
I am putting my money on a new upgrade around the 10.8 release with all the major upgrades discussed/highlighted in this great article by Chris Foreman:

Thanks for this – really appreciate it.
I followed all of your directions through 11 (didn’t have a blackmagic folder anywhere in the Library(s).
Unfortunately still have the CUDA drivers showing up in ‘Other’ in system preferences. Are these removed by following steps 12 forward?

Thanks. But again – your work with my two tweaks is still all your work. Thanks so much Simon.

Cool – thanks.
I did something a little different than you did. By creating the solid background color generator as mentioned above and publishing the ‘brush’ from lighting to the same rig I was able to both change the badge background and the lighting outline color. It looks awesome:
Here is what it looks like in FCP X:
And here is the place I added the Solid Color Generator under your Effect Source:

your Awesome.
I figured out that if I just added Color Solid Motion generator to the Effect Source group and placed it below the Effect Source option it gave me that ability.
I am now trying to add a color choosing option for your ‘lighting’ as well and see how that looks.
Thanks so much.
btw – How do I post it on here so you can see what i did?

First off – thanks so much for all your hard work and sharing it with all of us. That is awesome.
I am using your badge effect for a video I am making and love it. One thing I am doing is using some logo .png’s with transparent backgrounds and am wanting to change the color of the badge background from the default white to another color.
I am going to try it myself in Motion 5 – but wondered if you had any tips.
Thanks again for your fantastic willingness to build and share.
