Thanks for all the answers, YikeSmikes – that tutorial was very useful, thanks!

Mylenium – I totally agree that the most realistic would be to animate the masks individually especially since some vines have curles on them… so if I have enough time I’ll try that.

Eric – Interesting point with the noise… I’ll try add that to the tutorial Yikes added.

Jason – I’ll give it a try and see if I can get it looking any good

    Thanks all again
    Michael

November 13, 2006 at 5:19 pm in reply to: making a surf text effect

Your question is a little unclear, but I think I may understand.

You want the text of the stars’ names to have a wave colour inside it?

    If that is the case:

    – Create some text
    – Put some footage of a wave below it… I’m assuming you can easily get this
    – in the “mode – T – TrkMat” column to the left of the timeline … turn track matte to alpha ( top option of 4 )

Now you’ll have text with a wave texture.

    Hope that helps,
    Michael

Subject: Re: Wiggle (or is it?) – position – only X!

    Wiggle X Only:

    [wiggle(5,30)[0],value[1]]

    Wiggle Y Only:

    [value[0],wiggle(1,100)[1]]

    Wiggle X and Y seperately:

    [wiggle(5,30)[0],wiggle(1,100)[1]]

    Thanks Steve,

That was just what I needed… much appreciated!
And now I also know you can simply pick whip to add to the expression 😉

    Thanks,
    Michael

  • I just wanted to check if you’re sure you’re duplicating the layer and not the effect… since sometimes AE crashes for me when I have multiple copies of the same effect on one layer.

    Cheers,
    Michael

ps – maybe a link to the tutorial would help.

January 19, 2006 at 11:43 am in reply to: moving a layer without moving it’s mask

I would like to know how to keep a layer’s mask position and scale to behave independantly to the layer itself, but haven’t found a way yet… so I use track mattes instead. Put a mask on a solid just above your layer, thus keeping it independant.

    Hope that helps.

January 16, 2006 at 3:02 pm in reply to: settings/options for rendering .wmv Thanks!

I couldn’t find a 2pass setting in AE, so unless someone else finds it I would suggest a program like Windows Media Encoder or Sorenson Squeeze…

I made up some WME settings and uploaded them:

The “bit rate VBR (peak)” is a 2 pass encode setting. (in the second image)

    Hope that helps,
    Gecko
