I get mixed results when doing this. Sometimes I get horizontal lines (looks like field order issue, however field order is correct) if I do not place SCM in SD sequence for downres. I would rather not have to do this extra step, but sometimes I have to in order to get my SD DVD to look correct.

The problems must be related to the EX part of the equation. I have been using the Sony F350 since it first came out and have experienced no problems with native XDCam HD editing. In fact, I am very impressed with the imagery and workflow. Now crashes what so ever with regular XDCam HD editing over here in the last 2 years. Is the EX codec a little different?

Or, can you now export your 1440 footage with the Kona and let it covert to 1920 in realtime, then reimport at 1920 and work in a 1920 sequence, keeping away from 1440 entirely?

Load some HDV footage and see if it is still slugish. If you are editing muliple streams of prores, your machine will respond differently than HDV because prores runs at a higher data rate.

Capture to prores 422 through your capture card. I know it is not ideal, but it should stop your problems.

Should he get the Kona LHi instead for additional HDMI in and out?

Scott,
I have to do the down rez in a Pro Res SD sequence to get my DVD’s looking good. Compressor does not seem to downconvert very well for me. I export a Ref movie from my HD sequence. I import into a Prores SD sequence with same basic settings. Then I send that export to compressor with good results. I am shooting mostly 1080i 60 HDV on my new system at home and I have to use this process every time.
Funny this is, at my corporate video job by day, I shoot XDcam HD on Sony F350’s at 23.98 (most of the time) and I usually do not have problems going from the HD sequence straight to compressor and letting it do the downrez. Not sure why.

Why not capture HDV (through Kona) directly to ProRes 1080? Is this what you are doing? I have a Z5u. I go out HDMI from camera to HDMI in on LHi breakout box and capture directly to ProRes 1080 preset. Works well for me, however I do get static when I stop the playhead sometimes. No problems with audio in finished product but aggrevating while editing.

I have been running one Media 100 system and one FCP system for at least 6 years. I sold the M 100 system over a month ago. I must say that I hated the cost to upgrade Media 100 over the years but I did like the interphase. That being said, Final Cut Studio does so much for the price that it is hard not to make the jump. Yes it takes a little time to learn new software, but in the end I feel that it is worth it and I am very happy.

David,
I read in an earlier post to disconnect my Caldigit HD One while upgrading the OS. I also have two internal striped drives (software raid 0) and one that runs the OS. Do I need to pull the two striped drives when doing the clean install?
