I just updated/upgraded to Snow Leopard and FCP7 on my MBP. I would’ve chalked it up to a limited system size (see below) if it weren’t for the fact that FCP6 on regular Leopard was working just fine. This is also the first time I have edited ProRes 422 footage. It’s usually been native HDV in the past. Would a simple GB stick of RAM do the trick? My Mac performs superbly in every other function besides FCP.

I’m sure I could find a culprit if I researched online for the next several days, but I’m hoping I can get a better and quicker turnaround on here! Thanks for your help.

No clean install? You need to erase your hard drive and start clean with the OS and then clean install of FCP 7 to get good performance. An update to both is not recommended.

    Hi Chris,
After installing all that stuff the system is a real mess.
If you run DiskWrrior you may find more than a 30% of “items out of order”.
Run DiskWarrior, TechTools or any other application to rebuild the directories and repair permissions.
    Cheers,

This is from the tec specs for FCS.
1GB of RAM (2GB of RAM recommended when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources; 4GB of RAM recommended when working with uncompressed HD sources)

Load some HDV footage and see if it is still slugish. If you are editing muliple streams of prores, your machine will respond differently than HDV because prores runs at a higher data rate.
