“Control the deck via Firewire, capture through the component outputs of the deck straight into our system.”

I usually capture using the HDMI out of my Z5u to ProRes. What are the benefits of using component and firewire? Is it deck control? Also, how are you capturing audio?

Thank you David. I will use my PC for e-mail and use Safari for my browser. I thought this might be the case, but I just wanted to be sure. Better safe than sorry. I also thank you for a straight forward answer without all the sarcasm and tude. Folks should simply not reply if they think a question is too basic or obvious, most people would not ask if they knew the answer for sure. Users come here because they respect and value the knowledge base and know they are getting real world answers from people with vast experience. Half the time I feel like I need to begin the post with…

Be kind and try not to ream me for asking, but _______________ .

    Again thanks,

Pananoid? Or just asking a simple question in order to be cautious. I take it from your response that no one uses any security or virus programs on their Mac. At home, I have always had a PC sitting a few feet from my Mac for internet access and never missed not having it. At my day job as a corporate video producer, the powers that be will not support our Mac’s on the company network. So, never had it as an option. That being said, if there are no issues (like on the PC side) then I’ll start using Safari.

I know this is a very basic issue and I want to thank you for your advise and patience. Is there an accepted, most commonly used security/anti-virus/ect. software that I should run along with Safari?

What is the best and least expensive way to properly clone the system drive. I think Walter mentioned that time machine breaks compressor (not sure though).

    Thanks,

August 3, 2009 at 5:31 pm in reply to: Problem with Kona LHI

Thanks for responding Gary. On my first three projects I shot 60i with a Z5u. I captured to PreRes 60i easy setup with no problems. Shot my forth project and attempted to capture with same settings, there is no video or audio when I go to log and capture. It’s showing no video in the diagram on Kona control panel. Also, when I do a passthrough I still get black. On one of my projects I started to get green distortion on my playback monitor and sometimes I would get a solid green screen but it would then go away. It was not my monitor becasue I changed inputs and it was working properly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So native 24p on the Z7u is really captured through the Kona LHi to 1080psf 23.98 ProRes. But, 30p native on Z7u in not really 29.97? I should use 1080i 30 ProRes 422 to capture native 30p footage? Seems like there should be a preset for this in easy setup that does not need to be tweeked.

After render, when I play the clip the problem exists in the canvas as well. However, when I stop playing the clip, the effect looks correct in the canvas window, strange.

  • All is well now as long as I run in safe RT in FCP. Thanks for all the help with my problem.
