  • Ouroboros is pretty good but if that doesn’t let you do what you need to give this a try.

I would try setting it up with one copy of the lines that have animated dash properties that change as you need them. Then put a copy of the lines that are solid above the dashed layer, and use a solid layer with a gradient as a luma matte above the solid line layer. You can use this matte to fade off the solid line layer into the animated dashed line layer. Then in theory you can adjust the gradient in the luma matte to transition from solid line to dashes.

Im not 100% sure you can do this in the Lite version of C4d, but you can render out a depth pass from cinema and use that in AE as a blur map for an effect like camera lens blur. Depending your scene you can probably fake it by masking off certain areas and just blurring the layers by hand. I havent had to do that in a while so I might be wrong but see what you can do about bringing multipasses into AE. From Cinema I believe its in the render settings. You’d probably want to export object buffer and depth.

  • are you changing tools back to the selection tool before you try doing other things? You still have the text tool selected in the screenshot so thats why i ask.

Wow thats a really long video! Are you trying to key out the whole thing in AE? Id recommend waiting until they know which pieces of the video will need to be keyed out first. I’ve never tried rendering 40 mins of video out of AE and the effects you’re using are very intensive. If you need to render this whole thing out, check out the render garden plug in.

It might take better use of multicore cpu while you’re rendering. I don’t use it myself but i’ve heard good things.

I would think you’d have to animate the path itself to move in that whipping shape

I agree. I bet its something with the font names. Sometimes what AE displays in the character window isn’t the exact name of the font file either on your computer. I’d recommend trying a few different types of futura if you wanna keep trying to get to the bottom of it. But if exporting the original works you may as well do that haha.

As i understand it all those other codecs you tried are still quicktime files so that probably didn’t yield useful results. Try an image sequence like Rich recommended or try rendering through AME into something that isn’t .mov and see if you get any better results.

I’ve seen this pop up before and it never really gets resolved so let us know if you make any breakthroughs. I wonder if you try other settings besides [None] in AE if you can get the colors to match what one of those players is displaying.

Maybe we can narrow it down to something if that’s the case. also are you sure you want the 2.4 gamma rec 709 setting. Gamma affects the lightness pretty much, so wonder if quicktime/VLC are interpreting that differently.

Does the merge shapes option not work for this situation? Its under the Add:> arrow on shape layers. click on the contents line first and then try the merge shapes effector. It sounds like exactly what you’re describing

  • Yeah like dave said if its strobing due to tiny lines flashing on and off, it’ll be hard to fix that without changing the design.

I don’t know what this is an image of or how it’s being used but perhaps you’d be able to zoom in until the lines are a reasonable width. Maybe creative camera moves could be your friend here. Something like a quicker pan of the top half and cut to a quicker pan of the bottom half so it’s still the same time length for the pic lock or something along those lines.

Tell the producer or whoever that its a problem with the design of the lines and they should stop using images like that. Its like wearing striped shirts on camera

  • Thanks brian I’ve had this issue too and could never pin it down
