September 24, 2018 at 8:40 pm in reply to: Workaround for QuickTime Renders in AE CC 2018?

    Hey Ron,

I’m using ae 15.1.0 ( I think the most current) and I can render animation codec with alpha without any trouble. What happens when you try? Is the option gone for you?

I think that means you should still have access to rendering as an animation with alpha. You might have better luck exporting an image sequence from C4d and then importing the img sequence in AE instead of going straight to a video from C4d. Maybe I’m not on the most current build but I’ll just never update since everything works right for me! Good luck!

Ah sorry that didn’t help. For me increasing the end opacity got the stroke to complete, but I only roughly recreated your shape to try it on. As for the soft edges, maybe use curves and set it to the alpha channel to boost it up. You might have to precomp again again before it’ll change the alpha right. Good luck

  • Hey I just upgraded to a 1080 and it works great so far. You’d notice a huge upgrade from the 780ti. Here’s the spec sheets from Nvidia for the two cards (1080 vs 2080) https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-1080/specifications and https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2080/

The 2080 will surely perform better but the 1080’s have come down a lot in price recently. I also think video ram is more important than purely CUDA cores for AE work. (disclaimer:not an expert) Hope that helps

If you’re just doing it as a hobby and occasional freelancing you don’t need a very high end workstation. If you’re worried about compatibility, websites like https://pcpartpicker.com/ help you put together a list of compatible parts and also have other people’s completed build with reviews about how it’s working. I’ve used that a few times as a guide for buying parts. If you’re not doing long, 4k+ work you should have no trouble buying a good machine with your budget.

It’s worth checking out the ryzen processors too these days, imho. The 1700 series did very well, it’s generally lower ghz but more processors. You might be able to get a better deal as they’re usually a bit cheaper than Intel. But if you’re not going to be doing anything too crazy the original build you posted should be fine. You can always upgrade down the road.

Have you tried adjusting the mid-point and end opacity? i was able to get a stroke all the way around a similar shaped object by increasing those

This might not work, but probably worth trying before you try to roto it by hand. Have you tried using the mask tracking to make a mask over his head and just tell AE to track that. It does a pretty good job sometimes. Since he doesnt have long hair it might work. Maybe mask track his head and increase the expansion/feathering when needed.

I recently bought a budget work station/ gaming desktop from Ibuypower.com. It was about $1200 with a ryzen r7 8 core 3 ghz processor. I’m very happy i went with the 8 core r7 which was at the time even cheaper than a higher clocked quad core i7 (if my memory serves correctly).

I believe they sell laptops as well. I was considering building a computer myself but the price was pretty much the same as buying it pre-made through them. Took about 2 weeks from when i ordered it to when it arrived and they ended up paying for the shipping (which was about $150) because they didn’t meet the rush deadline I asked for. I’d recommend checking them out, they run a lot of sales as well.

Check out this tutorial about tracking text to walls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ToPGhr_muI

Same ideas should apply here if you’re trying to add text/images to that first page. You’d just have to roto out the cover so the texts reveals as the books opens. Otherwise it should be pretty similar to that tutorial.

But there’s really a lot of ways of to track the text into the book. You could probably do it with normal tracking with rotation and scale checked also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Db-B7AcTQw

Or if you want to try tracking it in mocha check out this quick tutorial too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaH9YHY4aEo

These should give you a pretty good over view of your options, good luck.
