What are you wanting to use the MPEG2 for?

  • Did you have any success with this? I’m considering doing the same. Which 8 port managed switch did you get? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the help so far. I could get this to work fine if there was only one card flip in a comp. It was as soon as I started duplicating my first card flip to create alternate versions and changing the timing of the keyframes on those other version that I ran into issues.

My solution was to create a pre comp of the 3 layers that made up each card, do the animation in the pre comp, and then duplicate and modify the pre comp as needed. I then built my main composition from the 6 pre comps.

This was my end result: https://vimeo.com/truvision/review/47959190/437f589820

Other tips or an explanation of what might have been going on when I had everything in the same comp would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Card Wipe kind of does what I want.. but I have less control. If I’m looking at it right I’d have to create all of the card “sides” in photoshop. One graphic with the logo that would work as the back of each of the six flipping cards with Card Wipe..

Then a graphic for each unique text side. I lose the ability to light sweep the text as the card spins though if I bake the text into the graphics in photoshop.. don’t I?

I am trying my original plan, but putting all of the elements for each card into a pre comp. So far, so good. Wish I knew what was causing the text to flicker during keyframe changes in my original method though.

Just wasn’t familiar with it yet. I will look into it. Thanks.

I’m curious if multicam editing still cuts back to the angle playback started on every time playback stops?

In CS5.5 if I start playing a multicam sequence with angle 1 active and then live cut to angle 3, then 2, and then pause playback premiere automatically adds another edit back to angle 1 when I click to stop. I would like cuts to only happen if I add them. In this example when I pause, no cut would be added. The cti would just stop with angle 2 still active.

Is there an option to join through edits as in FCP?

  • I had this happen recently on two projects. The first time the only fix I found was to export my timeline to a self contained Quicktime. Share > Export Media. Then cut my 53 minute sequence just before the audio dropped and delete everything before. I export the remaining two minutes and it spit out the audio and then 51 minutes of silence afterward… there was nothing in the timeline (checked the index) after the two minutes of remaining audio.

I’ve found that sometimes even if I delete clips FCPX still thinks my sequence is as long as it was at the longest point.

I then was able to edit the two minute audio bit to the full export in a new project. It sucked. I tried everything. Delete renders, render everything before the export, audio only, audio only roles as separate files, send to compressor, copy to new sequence (wouldn’t copy), export XML (it failed to import – error message), looked for anomalies in my timeline at the point the audio dropped out (nothing apparent). The only thing I could figure is that I synced the video clips using the beta of PluralEyes for FCPX and maybe it did something weird in creating the XML that was sent back after synchronizing.

The second time I actually found something in my timeline that solved the issue. An editor had used a fade on a connected audio clip which turned it into a storyline. I don’t know why they didn’t adjust the fade in/out handle, but this was a secondary storyline with a gap and an audio clip and a fade between the two. I removed the fade, broke apart the secondary storyline, delete the gap clip and adjusted the fade handle and it worked perfect after that.

Is it possible that you either used Pluraleyes on your project, or have an actual dissolve/fade transition fading audio in or out at the time the audio drops? Do you get an error message if you try to export an XML of your project and reimport it?

There is a lot to like, and I wish I could jump in and stay, but there are some show stopping issues for me. The biggest two I have found that kill workflow are the bloated project files and no multicam.

I do some weddings and the multicam feature in legacy really speeds things up for certain portions of those edits… like getting a rough cut of the ceremony together from 3 to 5 cameras.

We tried cutting a ceremony in X recently by syncing multiple cameras stacked in their own story lines. We would find the shots we wanted and copy them into a “master” secondary storyline above everything else. Somewhere along the way I realized things weren’t quite in sync and I couldn’t find a definitive point where the problem started. I think it was the result of someone auto syncing and not doing a full check to ensure accurate sync.

I decided to start from scratch and manually sync up all the DSLR files. After getting all of the clips connected I grouped the clips from each camera into compound clips. Then I pasted all of my newly synced compound clips into the old project and started putting the cuts in based on the old edit. With four 1 hour long compound clips, and the original master storyline with source clips the project grew to almost 400MB. Every time I added a new cut X sat with the beachball spinning for about 45 seconds before I could jump to the previous edit and add another cut. Every cut slowed things down more and more. I was wishing I could turn off the auto save because I think X saving after every change I made was the bottleneck. It was really obnoxious.

My guess is that it is simply an issue of finalizing the FCPX xml and “upgrading” Motion 5 to understand it. If Motion 5 is a pure upgrade will it take a “send to motion” from FCP7?

I think its less that they removed it and more they haven’t added it in yet. Does seem like it would be a priority though. I think its more useful than the publish feature.
