how do we match color profiles from FCP to AE7?
-
it’s a typo. I always get machine control numbers mixed up. I don’t think I’m going to mess around with the drivers. I have a working stable machine. I will just find a way to hook our Beta SP up to our SDI router and add machine control that way. I should have tried loading the USB conversion first. I remember doing that once before during the first installation that got the MBP up and running.
Anyway, this hasn’t soured me on MBP. It still has one of the cleanest/sharpest signals I’VE seen. It’s always under deadline when things like this happen isn’t it?

Here’s how we got it to work. Shut down machine. Unplug PCI cable and hook up USB cable to use as pass through. Boot up. Let firmware drive update (and for some reason it works). I do the update. Shut down. Reboot. Shut down. Unhook from USB and re attach the PCI. THEN the firmware will update without locking up the Mac. Now all works again.

I can boot without the multibridge OCCASIONALLY I get booted with both on but I usually have to flash the PRAM to do it. If I get to my desktop and I get the firm ware update. I will can operate on the computer, FCP will not run, but I can see all my setting and launch FCP (no playback that locks up FCP) but as soon as I hit that update button. The whole shooting match comes to a grinding halt. And then I have to do it all again to try something else. I’ve uninstalled twice. I downloaded a new 5.6.3 thinking the one I had might be corrupt. Does the Uninstaller completely clean it out? What’s causing the hangup during the firmware update?

but now it seems it won’t boot up with the multibridge plugged in…

September 8, 2006 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Theory and Practice of Music Bed Volume LevelsAnother thought would be to export out the edited dialog and mix in Audition. I never worked like that until this current job. Just concentrating on the audio/editing/mixing part is so much easier outside of the program. Dropping in FX and such can be done with small QT or visual aid to help after you do the music mix but that initial marriage of music and dialog can happen all alone…
The mixes at this place are so much sharper than anything I’ve done before… But it’s more of an actual post scoring than a DIY mixdown. But with the Adobe suite you can DIY. I’d be interested to see if this work flow “works” for you…

August 23, 2006 at 5:21 pm in reply to: water in drunk driving commercial – how do they do this?Looking at the footage… You would NOT necessarily have to have these bad boys loaded up on a tow rig to move. You could green screen the passenger side and composite in the motion and the reflections easy. It looks like the two side shots use the same “plate” while the far off shot where the truck is swerving you see the sloshing liquid a bit too well to be actually driving with that… Especially, since the few “driving” shots are quick and used to sell/highlight the idea instead of carry the idea. I think one of this threads forum hosts has a demo DVD with just that kind of tutorial in mind…
IMHO,you’d still need to shore up the “alchohol” inside the auto for the other shots. I mean if these were ALL effect shots, I’d like to know how…

August 23, 2006 at 4:14 pm in reply to: water in drunk driving commercial – how do they do this? Those are great spots… Very easy to use… probably had an arsenal of water damaged cars just waiting for a second life (Katrina – Rita)… But you also could do additional color correction on just the water in AE, Combustion or higher end Combustion Big Bro like Smoke)
But the low tech solutions seem smarter and easier for posting… especially public service announcements… I edited a Seat Belt Safety spot for St. Louis/Chicago markets that had a production budget of $2K for 2 days each shooting IN St. Louis & Chicago… Called in a lot of favors and IOU’s to make that fly. We had fully stocked Grip Truck (HMI’s, Reflectors, mini-jib, dolly etc) on location as well so it pays to make connections and help out in a pinch…Matt Sowder

okay, now I have it. I reseated the cabling… didn’t change them or swap positions. Just pulled them out and replugged them in. Both sides work. Did I miss a step and have all this plugged in to soon? At any rate, the early captures and outputs look VERY clean. The SDI side is abso-FREAKIN-lutely pristine (it should be in Webster’s if it’s not already)…

Borjis,
Nope, I have that already. I have a stable composite signal into my deck. Test record looks great… Pass through to my monitor is stable with sync in (not in you get the vertical blanking roll about midway on monitor only). What I am NOT getting is component in or out from the beta SP. The wiring we had worked perfectly with our AJA pro I/O… I tested the system prefs out and I can uncheck the single field preview and see immediate results on my timeline when I switch programs back to FCP. No setting in there has brought up my component signal…Matt Sowder
