Jay any luck? If your PC based, I think you may have an issue in the registry and may need to clean that. Back that up before you do anything, or find a program that will let you do that before do that. I don’t think you’ll get a clean install without making sure you have a clean uninstall. I don’t know if that approach will work to particular problem but if it doesn’t work then you can at least rule out the install.

I hope this jogs someone’s memory, there was a documentary series about editing that aired recently. I missed it totally but know it’s out there. I’ve been lusting to watch that…
My favorite thing to do is tap out the edits to the beat of music. Often, I time and work things out to the beat before I even lay down a video clip. When I watch TV/Movies/”videos” etc, I do this. My wife absolutely hates this. I like to guess the suspense moment when the lurker strikes, I like to be surprised by the clever cutaway during a sequence. Two of my favorite shows recently have been “Boston Legal” & “Lost”. The recent run summer music reality shows have been terrible. I really hope they were shot live to tape because if they were edited from ISO cams then I would be screaming for my money back. Just a thought or two. I really do learn from the good works of others. FWIW YMMV

I read a wonderful script writing book that covered this very occasion. They need a point person and they need to have agreed on the script coverage. Even with a committee (shudder) you can reach consensus much easier with an agreement on the treatment, then script, etc… In this case, the cows are out of the barn. If you don’t show them the real cost issues of this path way versus a real decision you’ll could be in this for a long time. I used to provide agency service to clients at material cost (tape, travel ie as close to free as you can imagine). Ever work two weeks on a simple slide to tape transfer? How about several re-edits after the fact when they weren’t the decision makers? I sure didn’t much care for it. My point is that you need to have agreements in place for such contigencies before you do a single edit. Charlie’s idea is a good one if you want to keep these folks as clients later on. Your time for those simple changes could be spent on full days for other clients. I’ve been down that path and I lean towards colourblind’s idea to dump them. My situation is different now though and I do bill hourly… =)
I flipped a coin… bill’em… good luck. Tell us how this plays out…

June 25, 2005 at 7:34 pm in reply to: Work fatigue, loss of concentration, etc. How to tackle them?Charlie said to re read the post on creative burnout… There were actually two. Tim Allen has a great article that is probably still posted about trying new things. It was timely the first time I went through that. I was teaching myself photoshop. The second time I was getting my jones on with After Effects. Despite the fact that I can get into AE and be dangerous, didn’t stop this second round. I bang out Spots for Auto Dealers for folks who have know idea how to manage a video department and have no interest in listening to someone who does. Constantly doing the same spot with different incentives( PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMERS ON THESE F’ING SPOTS!!!! ) is a real downer… Yet, I’m slowly coming out of it?
I’m making myself look outside the job. I’m also starting to make contacts to start my freelance editing back up. I have the gear and I am looking to pick up stuff that is of interest to me. Just talking about the creative process to someone else who “gets it” is a major deal. This forum is one of my favorites when I have time to post. I also like the post about drinking water and other healthy pursuits. That has helped. My concentration is better and the grind is better.
Trust me, your description sounds like my daily job. My nerves were/are shot. It’s not easy. Give yourself into some change or the insanity will get you and what you love doing will be that again…

Duh,
I had the keyspan assistant external… I also had a bad deck control cable… up and running just fine. But I had to make sure the correct port was active in my network system preferences and make sure those details were the same in my M100 hardware prefs as well.
