I’ve got SDI router (machine control, audio, video) in on multibridge pro 5.6.3 on a Mac OS 10.4.7 -4×2.5 GHX PowerPC G5 w/ 4.5G of DDR2 SDRAM

My problem is that whenever I need to switch RS 232 from the main system to occasionally capture/master to Beta SP. I cannot just simply swap cables. I have to UNINSTALL the drivers. Reboot WITHOUT the multibridge on. Shut it down again. THEN reinstall the drivers. REBOOT. THEN SHUTDOWN again. THEN I can plug MBP in and have it working. I had to do this from SDI to Beta SP and now that I’m done I have to do it AGAIN to go back to SDI. And this time around seems even harder than before knowing what I went through the last time this happened. A simple cable swap shouldn’t be this difficult.

I can boot without the multibridge OCCASIONALLY I get booted with both on but I usually have to flash the PRAM to do it. If I get to my desktop and I get the firm ware update. I will can operate on the computer, FCP will not run, but I can see all my setting and launch FCP (no playback that locks up FCP) but as soon as I hit that update button. The whole shooting match comes to a grinding halt. And then I have to do it all again to try something else. I’ve uninstalled twice. I downloaded a new 5.6.3 thinking the one I had might be corrupt. Does the Uninstaller completely clean it out? What’s causing the hangup during the firmware update?

Here’s how we got it to work. Shut down machine. Unplug PCI cable and hook up USB cable to use as pass through. Boot up. Let firmware drive update (and for some reason it works). I do the update. Shut down. Reboot. Shut down. Unhook from USB and re attach the PCI. THEN the firmware will update without locking up the Mac. Now all works again.

    Hi Matt,

That’s a very strange and frustrating experience. You mentioned you are running Multibridge 5.6.3 drivers. When you’re not in the middle of an important job, I would recommend you update to Multibridge 5.7.2 drivers which are the current version and you can download them from software downloads.

In regards to your RS-232 device control, is that just a typo or are you using some adapter to control via RS-232? Multibridge Pro provides device control via RS-422 so hence the question.

it’s a typo. I always get machine control numbers mixed up. I don’t think I’m going to mess around with the drivers. I have a working stable machine. I will just find a way to hook our Beta SP up to our SDI router and add machine control that way. I should have tried loading the USB conversion first. I remember doing that once before during the first installation that got the MBP up and running.

Anyway, this hasn’t soured me on MBP. It still has one of the cleanest/sharpest signals I’VE seen. It’s always under deadline when things like this happen isn’t it?

    Hi Matt,

At such a time as you might get around to updating the drivers, do let me know if you run in to any problems but I do understand why you’re not updating now. If you need to do so, the Multibridge Pro can also be run in standalone convertor mode so you can connect your Betacam SP to the SDI router and share it on your network.
