Got it… the Mac codec is not posted on their website.

Commotion really isn’t integrated into Liquid. The Composite Wizard and Image Lounge plug-ins bundled with Commotion are now bundled into Liquid. These were not part of the core Commotion toolset, but were added to Commotion 3.0 when Puffin Designs acquired the ISFX plug-ins for After Effects.
I have not been talking to anyone at Avid or Pinnacle about adding Commotion’s tools into Liquid. My shop is all Mac-based, so if anything we would just want the stand-alone Commotion updated. 16bit paint and advanced matte cutting tools would be nice. Scott Squires who originally wrote Commotion has been in contact with Avid, so if the planets align there may be hope.

You now need to duplicate your background, put it on the top, then rotoscope or key the people back on top of the line.

Two options…
Free – Duplicate your layer. Remove the feathering from the mask on the top layer, and completely remove the mask on the bottom layer. On the bottom layer apply an alpha track matte. Then add a fast blur to the top layer to feather the mask 16bit. It will feather a bit outwards, so control this by pulling in the “Mask Embiggen” parameter**.
Plug-in – Use the Red Giant Key Correct Matte Feather plug-in. This is similar to Composite Wizard Matte Feather, but runs 16bit. It has a lot of control for keeping corners hard and controlling the feather slope. IMO it is a must-have.
** This is now called Mask Expansion to be grammatically correct. To see it in it’s proper CoSA/Homer Simpson pronunciation, command/option/shift click on the word Mask Expandion, twirl it closed then twirl it back open =).

No clue yet… I am getting one this week as well. The biggest issue about these machines is that they are all PCIexpress, so older cards will need to be replaced. For me this means getting a new FibreChannel card and a new Decklink.

AE 6.5 has a a very similar paint interface as Commotion. Many of the techniques, shortcuts and workflow are identical. The only catch is that it is vector based, so if you are working on hi-res plates it bogs down. If you are working on SD it should be fine for what you need. If you want to jump up to the next level, check out sillhouette roto… they have a new 16bit raster based paint module which is probably the top gun right now.

This was brought up a few weeks back here. Don;t get too excited. It has nothing to do with Commotion… these are the Composite Wizard and Image Lounge plug-ins they are talking about. These plug-ins were previously called ISFX, then Puffin acquired them to bundle with Commotion.

It’s just a simple fact that Puffin never had time to iron all of the bugs out of the Windows version, and Pinnacle never bothered updating it.
