I have the same problem happen to me a lot. We are cutting a 3D show for Discovery, so lots of HD media, and 2 video layers at that for each eye. Its a heavy load on the system. I’m open to hearing more of this conversation as it really bugs me how slow it can get sometimes.
My temp solutions have been to keep project sizes under 100 mb, don’t keep more than 3 or 4 sequences open in the timeline ( tabs ), restarting, and sometimes doing the preferences thing like you.
Yes, we are Pro Res and working over a shared network on 2 Quad 2.66 Intel FCPro 7

Hey Everyone. Glad to report that the MXF reading options worked out for me. I opted to go with Calibrated. I’m a bit bummed it just couldn’t complete in L&T but at least I wasn’t dusted. I got my media and am cutting once again. Thank you CC for the support.

Shane… i’m TOTALLY working off off a duplicate. Actually I have it the media archived in 2 places. So, I’m cool in that sense. But, what I didn’t do but should have done is copy the media off the cards 2 separate times to 2 separate drives to combat against possible corruption i’ve been told. What I have been doing is making a dupe once I copy off of the cards.
Thank you for the new solutions. Yes, I’ll look into reading the MXF directly. I have an Media Composer 5 as well. What is the most cost effective and direct method to read these files? FCPro or my MC ? And out of those solutions you provided… which do you like best? I’m looking to save time here… as I’ve been hung up for pushing a week now and client is biting at the bit.

Unfortunately for me… i tried marking the in and out points in even as small as 10 minute chunks… and nothin’. But… great concept huh? And… the chunk that I actually did get to come in was only the first 15 minutes. I can’t get the 2nd or 3rd chunk to even ‘read’ in the logging window without the first part. But… it is interesting that I can somewhat manipulate the files within the contents folder. I wish I knew a bit more about the structure of the files so I can isolate the problem or corrupt area. I’m still really stuck and this is a necessary media to save. I know there is a way since I can see it and play it just fine in the L&T window… but thats where it ends. Any other ideas I’m all ears.

I am really dealing with a doozy on this one guys. I’ve tried everything discussed in here… nothing works. There are 3 clips in my contents folder. Only the last 2 actually import. The first one in line is that stinking red exclamation! Anyway, i’ve gone as far as going into the video folder and removing everything except for the clip I need. That didn’t work, then I decided to break it down ever further, since inside the clip I need to import which is 40 minutes ish long… there are a few clips that create the larger clip. I can actually get the first 15 minutes to import just fine but the rest seems to be corrupt. OH… btw, it plays just fine in the L&T window, but crashes the p2cms reader and final cut just delivers the dreaded red exclamation…
so, what I’m asking is… is there another work around? Is it a length of shot thing? How do I uncorrupt my media?

January 5, 2011 at 6:19 pm in reply to: P2 importing problems on just a single clip????This same issue still persists with me. I’ve done everything discussed here and no luck yet. I have even gone so far as to try breaking up the clips in the video file. I have gotten the first 10 minutes to transfer over but it seems there is corruption in the mxf files that come after it.

I really appreciated this thread guys… but HECK! Why won’t FCS just allow us to copy and paste a keyframe? It boggles my mind!
