  • P2 Log and Transfer Error no data

Posted by David Rosberg on September 9, 2009 at 11:28 pm

I’ve seen this posted before, have not seen a solution…

I’m trying to ingest P2 footage (native 720p24) into a project. I’ve previously ingested footage from this shoot, but now it’s not coming in. I’m getting a little red stop sign with an exclamation point in it in the Status column of the Log and Transfer window… when I scroll over the stop sign a little yellow message appears reading “Error: No Data”. It appears to be ingesting the footage but no files are being created in the places I’d expect to see it. This is something I do frequently and this is the first time this has come up. The raw P2 files were transfered to a hard drive, so I’m doing the Log and Transfer off of that drive, something I’ve been doing for over a year with no problems. Last week I did a Log and Transfer out of these same folders, today, nothing is working. I’ve looked at the raw P2 files, everything that should be there, including the lastclip file is there. I can find no problems except for the fact that I can’t get to my footage.

    Any ideas?

Is there any chance you could elaborate on that? Not sure what you mean by trash preferences, or how to do this and also repair permissions.

[David Rosberg] “Not sure what you mean by trash preferences”

Download PREFERENCE MANAGER from https://www.digitalrebellion.com and run it.

[David Rosberg] “or how to do this and also repair permissions.”

Open up the DISK UTILITY in the APPLICATIONS>UTILITIES folder…highlight your drive and hit REPAIR PERMISSIONS.

I am also having this problem. I’ve unchecked Remove Advanced Pulldown, I’ve trashed my preferences, and I’ve repaired permissions. Yet the issue persists.

Could anyone please give me help on this? The red circle and exclamation point are driving me out of my mind. Thanks!!!

What is the format of the drive you are trying to import to?

I too am having this issue – and it is also driving me crazy!
I have literally tried everything I can find on this forum that people have suggested and the problem persists.
Is this a known bug with Final Cut & the P2 cards? There MUST be a fix for this. Someone please help.

I am also having this issue, however, the external that contains my P2 Information is NTSC formatted.

I am also having this issue, however, the external that contains my P2 Information is NTSC formatted. I have actually done it successfully a few days ago with different footage than what I’m attempting to import now. I could swear the import panasonic p2 menu was completely different when I did it the first time, than it is now.

The first time I successfully imported P2 clips I used Shane Ross’s video, “Importing P2 into FCP: Apple Final Cut Pro Video Tutorial”. The P2 menu I had was the same as Shane’s.

However, now, with the UNsuccessful attempts, my “Import P2 Clips” menu looks more like Shane Ross’s video, ” How to import Panasonic P2 footage into Final Cut Pro 6 | How to”.

I’m almost 100% sure I didn’t update anything but clearly something must’ve been updated from Shane’s 1st video (at least 1st one I mention) to the menu shown in Shane’s 2nd video. Perhaps this problem has risen from an update?

[Jeff Fedigan] “I am also having this issue, however, the external that contains my P2 Information is NTSC formatted.”

What? NTSC is a video standard…the one for the Americas. PAL is the European one. NTFS+ is the MacOS Extended format…is that what you mean? Anyway, it should be an issue how the drive is formatted. Not the one you have the P2 stored on, but the one that you use as your CAPTURE SCRATCH, that does need to be formatted MACOS Extended.

[Jeff Fedigan] “I could swear the import panasonic p2 menu was completely different when I did it the first time, than it is now. “

Well, what version of FCP are you using? Did you upgrade from the times you first used it? The interface in 5.0.4 is different than 5.1, and in 6.0 it changed slightly too. I have two tutorials to cover both major interfaces.

What exact issue are you having? error message?
