Don’t do ANY manipulation of the file structure. None. Zero. That will not make FCP see things better. It will make things worse. Did you back up the full card to begin with? Everything, not just bits and pieces?

If this isn’t working for you, then look at solutions like Calibrated or MXF4Mac or Raylight, that allow FCP to see the MXF files natively.

Shane… i’m TOTALLY working off off a duplicate. Actually I have it the media archived in 2 places. So, I’m cool in that sense. But, what I didn’t do but should have done is copy the media off the cards 2 separate times to 2 separate drives to combat against possible corruption i’ve been told. What I have been doing is making a dupe once I copy off of the cards.

Thank you for the new solutions. Yes, I’ll look into reading the MXF directly. I have an Media Composer 5 as well. What is the most cost effective and direct method to read these files? FCPro or my MC ? And out of those solutions you provided… which do you like best? I’m looking to save time here… as I’ve been hung up for pushing a week now and client is biting at the bit.

Hey Everyone. Glad to report that the MXF reading options worked out for me. I opted to go with Calibrated. I’m a bit bummed it just couldn’t complete in L&T but at least I wasn’t dusted. I got my media and am cutting once again. Thank you CC for the support.

    Shane,

Just a quick question regarding this same problem. I accidentally installed Snow Leopard without knowing it would create major problems with my FCP version 5. I too cannot upload my P2 Card footage and get an error message when I try to do so.

I’ve read that some people go back to Leopard to solve the problem. In my case, upgrading to FCP 7 would actually be easier. But will that work? I just want to make sure that with FCP 7 and Snow Leopard, I will be able to upload my P2 card footage without any error message.

    Thanks

Having the same issue. Shane I tried the other add clip way it didn’t work. The frustrating part is I use the same HD with P2 files on my friends mac and it works fine. NO Problems. He has fcp 6.0.5 ; I have plain 6.0 Maybe thats the issue.

Update to 6.0.6. There is no reason you should be on 6.0

I’m having lots of trouble on this. I’ve tried Log and Transfer and I get the red exclamation under the status bar with ‘no data’ written next to it. Bizarrely, when I hooked up my external hard drive to a friend’s computer with FCP, the footage transferred without any problem. That leaves me thinking that my hard drive is fine, the data is fine, there’s something wrong with with the set up of my computer (or specifically FCP).

    Any help is gratefully accepted!

I just fixed my FCP6 “Error: No Data” problem. The fix was downloading the FCP6 free updates from APPLE. I went from version 6.0.1 to 6.0.5. After a reboot – the P2 log and transfer just worked.
