Yes to your first question. Thanks for clarifying that.
To your second question:
I am currently using version 5.1.4. I’m pretty sure this isn’t the original version I had when I successfully imported my P2 clips the first time. I can recall watching your first, oldest importing p2 folder, and only having a grade slightly higher than the one you used in the video.
I don’t remember physically updating FCP, but I just bought my new Imac and there’s a good chance I clicked a pop-up without fully reading it. So perhaps, I did upgrade. The Import> P2 menu I’m using now is the same as the 2nd Importing P2 video you made (the one I mention in the post before this one).
Although I don’t consider it a fix, I think the quickest remedy for my issue so I can continue to do my work is just to re-install FCP and go back to the initial version I had when I first imported P2 clips.
A colleague of mine suggested making a “Virtual P2 Card”, essentially hooking up an external hard drive to our HPX170 and through the PC-mode formatting that external into a P2 Card. I do see how this may help keeping the file structure of the P2 clips (all the audio,video, etc folders) reasonably together, as compared to just dragging the P2 folder from Windows, to my external and then to my mac. Has anyone this issue and attempted to remedy by making a virtual P2 card?
The same colleague also gave me his copy of “The HVX and HPX Book” by Barry Green, which within the first 20 pages already has some insightful information, so hopefully this may trigger an idea.

March 23, 2010 at 4:26 amAdded to the previous post:
The issue I’m exactly having is that: I load my “P2 Clip” folder and all its contents to my hard drive from my External HD, create a FCP project, make a bin, set the bin to “logging bin”. Go to File > Import > Panasonic P2. I set the folder in which the P2 contents are (the “P2 Clip” folder), and I see all my clips load up into the main list. I can preview my clips, audio seems fine, video seems fine, I can even set my in/out points and re-label the clip with all the necessary information.
The problem arises when I hit either “Add Clip to Queue” or “Add Selection to Queue”. The status icon spins for a few seconds, then stops. The status BAR doesn’t move at all, it begins to process but doesn’t actually move any lengths. When I scroll over the clip I attempted to add into the queue, a red exclamation/yield sign replaces the status icon and reads: Error: No Data.
The colleague I mentioned in the previous post also mentioned to try using “Log and Transfer” however, I only have the option to “Log and Capture.”
Here are screen shots I took of my “Log and Capture” and the error message I receive.

Hope that worked.

March 24, 2010 at 5:47 amYes, and there’s 2 files for the audio in the AUDIO folder, “0002EQ00.mxf” and “0002EQ01.mxf”, assuming those are for 2 audio channels. In the CLIP folder there’s “0002EQ.xml” and a “0002EQ.bmp” in the ICON folder. As far as I can think of that’s all the necessary information.

April 5, 2010 at 10:19 pmHi everybody,
I had a similar problem:Panasonic AG HPX-171;
Mac Book Pro purchased on the end of march 2010, OS vers. 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard);
Final Cut Studio 2 version “I don’t remember what” (sorry) but earlier than 6.0.5 (it was the one installed by default with the Final Cut Studio Pro package, bought maybe 2 years ago (if I’m not wrong…).Anyway, importing by Log and Transfer, the problem was this: selecting one or more files in theclip list on the left side of the tool (of the window I mean), and then clicking on the Add Selection to Queue button, I had this rounded dark icon with an arrow inside spinning on herself, with any progression bar, and after the arrow had started spinning, clicking with mouse once on the clip in the queue list, that should had already been imported, that dark circle became red, with a question mark, and a message “no data” when mouse over.
I solved the problem updating FCP with the “software Upgrade” (upper left of the screen, apple icon, click, scroll down and you’ll find it). Actually the update has updated my FCP to 6.0.5, and the problem is gone.
Really hope this will help you all to solve your problem.
Good luck guys.All the best.

May 10, 2010 at 3:23 amGuy thanks for posting this I had been having the same problem and found a solution not mentioned. I had been transferring media from my p2 cards fine now for over a year then got the Error: No Data. I went to Final Cut Pro > System Settings and changed the “Scratch Disk” “Waveform Cache” “Thumbnail Cache” “AutoSave” locations and problem solved. I moved it to a different external hard drive. Hope this helps.

September 1, 2010 at 9:56 pmI know this has been a LOOOOOONG TIME since this post was addressed…but it doesn’t look like it was solved. Well, guess what? I was hit with the ERROR: NO DATA issue. But I was able to play back the footage fine in the L&T window…it was there. But when I dragged from the Browser to the transfer window, I got that error. When I clicked the ADD SELECTION TO QUEUE…I got that error.
BUT, when I selected the clip, then in the PLAYBACK AREA clicked on the ADD CLIP TO QUEUE…it worked.
Hope this helps someone in the future…because I found this post by googling the error…

January 5, 2011 at 6:35 pmI am really dealing with a doozy on this one guys. I’ve tried everything discussed in here… nothing works. There are 3 clips in my contents folder. Only the last 2 actually import. The first one in line is that stinking red exclamation! Anyway, i’ve gone as far as going into the video folder and removing everything except for the clip I need. That didn’t work, then I decided to break it down ever further, since inside the clip I need to import which is 40 minutes ish long… there are a few clips that create the larger clip. I can actually get the first 15 minutes to import just fine but the rest seems to be corrupt. OH… btw, it plays just fine in the L&T window, but crashes the p2cms reader and final cut just delivers the dreaded red exclamation…
so, what I’m asking is… is there another work around? Is it a length of shot thing? How do I uncorrupt my media?

January 5, 2011 at 6:51 pmI haven’t thought on it entirely yet but what jumped out at me is that it is possible to “transfer” clips in part. Could you try to import the first 15 minutes by setting an in and an out and then get that in. Then try again with the next 4 or so minutes? Keep going in small chunks, avoiding the need for a “span”? I know- long shot, incredibly complicated but I will give it some thought and get back to you if I find anything. Unless someone really much cleverer than I…?

January 5, 2011 at 7:12 pmUnfortunately for me… i tried marking the in and out points in even as small as 10 minute chunks… and nothin’. But… great concept huh? And… the chunk that I actually did get to come in was only the first 15 minutes. I can’t get the 2nd or 3rd chunk to even ‘read’ in the logging window without the first part. But… it is interesting that I can somewhat manipulate the files within the contents folder. I wish I knew a bit more about the structure of the files so I can isolate the problem or corrupt area. I’m still really stuck and this is a necessary media to save. I know there is a way since I can see it and play it just fine in the L&T window… but thats where it ends. Any other ideas I’m all ears.
