Thanks everyone for the advice/suggestions. I now have some good places to focus my research.
To answer a few of your questions Alex:
This will be a direct attach solution. I’m here all by my lonesome 🙁
As far as Drobo performance, there are just a lot of playback problems. Dropped frames, freezing on playback. I work in advertising so I work in mostly 15, 30 and 60 seconds, and I can seldom get through a full spot without freezing or skipping. I previously has a gRAID es storage system on the exact same computer and never had problems.

September 20, 2010 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Importing Tiff Sequence in AE: Frame size shrinkingYes, you’re right. With some help from my resident photoshop/photography expert, we realized the images are still in RAW form, so AE is only looking at the preview files. Now we just have to figure out an easy way to save 16,000 raw files as workable tiffs…
thanks of your time on this. appreciated.

September 20, 2010 at 7:31 pm in reply to: Importing Tiff Sequence in AE: Frame size shrinkingWhen I bring it into AE, the info on the actual sequence says 453×603(1.00). I only brought a file into Photoshop after trying it in AE, not believing that was the true file size. Dropping it into a comp only makes the comp the same frame size.

Sorry I never responded to this. I have an AJA card, and apparently the AJA AE plug ins were the problem. If you trash the plug-ins, it should alleviate the problem of the pixelated Animation footage.

Yep, comp window is at full-res. Whats really weird is that only these quicktimes are looking strange. I have other graphics made in AE and Photoshop that look fine within the same comp.

Yes, I’m running FCP studio 2 on a G5 (2 2.93GHz Quad-Core, 16 GB RAM OSX 10.6.2) and have a KONA 3 installed (sorry I didn’t post this earlier).
I have SDI from the Kona going to an HDMI converter into a hp color monitor, and the breakout cable component Y Pb Pr running to a plasma HD tv.
I tried your advice and created an entirely new project, with those settings and that seemed to work better. I got video to the hp monitor, but not to the plasma. I’ve been running 23.98 HD footage to both monitors successfully so far (this is an entire system upgrade about 3 weeks in).
Basically, we are cutting a spot and want to wow the client with our HD footage, although, eventually the spot will be SD.

Yes, switching to the “Beta” setting worked. Thanks for your help.

No, i’m not running Leopard yet, but thanks for the tip on that. No, most of the footage runs good, looks good, but it was just this one shot. I was just wondering if anyone had any similar situations with this type of footage and shot.

Cool, thanks for the tutorial.
